From signing players from Monaco to MK Dons reserves. No wonder they scrapped the Terrier Incoming announcements. the guy from Mk Dons will be a better player for us would be my guess. Im amazed people are still hung up on how much money we spend when we've been so royally bent over and screwed with so many expensive signings over the past 3 years.

Probably the shitest player ever to play for us. So I’m not bothered really where they come from. Do they add competition to starting places as a price we can afford??

I am not sure that it is the amount of money the keeper cost, it is more that someone who apparently was the second choice for a mid 3rd tier club could be out first choice next season. I am waiting to see how the whole of our transfers pan out before I make a comment on the quality of the signing, as he could be our third choice.

Post covid there are plenty of low and no fee players out there

Post covid there are plenty of low and no fee players out there I get that, i just think we are setting the bar very low. If were comparing wage bills to the promotion season, who out of our current squad gets in that team? Some might say Koroma, but that’s it. Same cost less quality. Danny Ward or Lee Nicholls?

Interesting one this. Regular first team keeper for MK for 3 seasons then after Russell Martin gets the managers job he stays first choice and they get Andy Fisher on loan from Blackburn in the Jan 2020 window but he doesn't play. They sign him permanently Oct 2020 and he becomes first choice and stays in with Nichols on the bench, then Nichols leaves. Not sure if he has been let go or turned down a new contract or fallen out with Martin. The deal here is probably better than MK and I am guessing he will be No.2 competing for No.1. At 28 he is a good age for a keeper with plenty of experience, albeit in lower divisions, and will push Schofield harder than the last 2 IMO. Be interesting to know what went on.

TBF I don't think there's much to choose between our 1st choice fullbacks now vs the ones we had then either.

Given the way Carlos wants to play, you would have thought one of the must tick boxes on the list of criteria was ability on the ball and distribution

A GK who's main weakness is seen as playing out from the back. A CB who's main weakness is seen as passing A Striker who's main weakness is his poor workrate and pressing ability.

Having two keepers with poor distribution doesnt make much sense to me

The club need a reliable backup, that is the main thing.

Having two keepers with poor distribution doesnt make much sense to me Pereira was good at distribution 🤔 How did that work out for us? Lad couldn’t do the basics of keeping, the bit about the ball in the net. Sounds like Nicholls has the shot stopping ability, can come for the high ball, strong positional sense and has a great save ratio for pens. Apparently not the best at playing out from the back is a problem, but it’s an upgrade on Schofield.

If you count distribution as him picking out of the net and booting it to the half way line for us to kick off the stats show him to be sensational.

If you're thinking of each player having his own duties - defenders defend & strikers score then fine - but (my understanding of) Carlosball depends upon attacking & defending as a team. A defender that hoofs it into row z when there are options to create an attack is failing in an important part of their role. A striker that doesn't disrupt the opposition defenders when they are trying to build an attack from the back is also failing in an important part of their job. You might not care about "leading the press" or "defending from the front", but it's that sort of thing that causes opposition players to make mistakes in dangerous areas. Attacking as a team creates overloads/chaos in & around the opposition penalty box.

A train of thought could be that we are recruiting good characters who have been solid performers and have relatively good injury records(robust)These type of characters would possibly fully buy into what Carlos wants to do and be easier to coach the methods into. It’s just a thought mind as tend to agree the signings on the face of things don’t seem to marry up completely with what you would think a Carlos player would look like.

Not much to worry about with their comments, range from he’s far too good to sit on our (MK) bench to he’ll fit in easily in the Championship. Also faced 20 career penalties and conceded 11which is pretty good. When all is said and done you can get worked up about signing unknown reserve and not an expensive big name from Man City or Milan, or wait and see what he’s like but over my time watching Town we’ve had a better luck shopping budget at Lidl than we have splashing out at Waitrose !

Not a glamour signing by any means, but he's a solid, decent option and will probably be a first teamer for us.
Similar to Pearson in that respect. Bread and butter no frills. A good, experienced foundation and hopefully give us a morale boost and some solidarity.
I don't mind more backbone signings like this, as long as we have some exciting players coming in alongside them.

I think an issue mentioned regularly was our one method approach made it easy for teams to stop us playing. These signings certainly give us more variety. We have coaches to train younger players in the methods Carlos wants but having good solid senior pros around is a good counter balance. The ‘we play our way’ is OK but setting up to beat a particular opponent is something we need to do and there are teams, not always good teams, we have struggled against. These signings, although they may not look to fit the way Carlos wants to play, address obvious failings and the club being pragmatic is, to me, a very good sign. They have all been free signings picked up very early as well which shows the recruitment team have done their homework.

Should this GK sign, I'd be very encouraged with the signings to date, especially as Phil promised the more "exciting" signings should be coming later. However, it does seem strange that we might have a GK, who his old fans thought was a very good GK but poor with his feet, a tough, no-nonsense CB, who is old fans felt distribution was his weak point & a CF who clearly knows where the net is, but who is not exactly known for his pressing. None of these seem to fit Carlosball?
I'm happy with these signings but will Carlos be?
