Can’t see this posted elsewhere but Steven Gerrard has been awarded Manager of the Year in Scotland. With his two cups in one year, compared to SG’s one trophy in three years, Callum Davidson of St Johnstone must surely have been more deserving. Before you make your mind up check out this celebration. Deserves if for that alone! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/57215420 Or here

Announced before this final however, so no way of knowing if they'd win it anyway Full season unbeaten, hardly bias really but both deserving tbh

Epecially seeing as their only rivals for the trophy they DID win imploded spectacularly!
My Glaswegian mate says even though he loved Lennon this season has been the most depressed he'd ever been.
Told him try being a Town fan 😁

Gerrards turned a 13 point deficit behind Celtic last season into a 25 point advantage this time, not losing a single league game all season. Thats a 38 point swing!! Celtic have only imploded compared to Rangers. They were still 14 points ahead of 3rd place! In fact they only got 3 points less than they did in winning it the season before.
It is a two horse race but that is some improvement by Gerrards team so think anyone would struggle to argue he doesn't deserve manager of the year myself.
davidsons claim is extremely good too it has to be said, and maybe any other year he'd have got it.

I actually like Steven Gerrard (in a DATM minority it appears) so I get your point, but Celtic have been incredibly shit this season. I think Super Js (90s throwback nickname maybe) winning even one trophy is bigger than Rangers winning the title, no matter the swing! Although I didn't expect Rangers to close the gap so much this season I'll admit!

Were they actually that incredibly shit though when if they'd got the same amount of points the previous season , they'd have still won the title by 10 clear points!

Watched a lot of Rangers this season, not really sure why(?), but Gerard has turned them into a good unit. Kent and Tavernier could easily play in the EPL and I can see a lot of interest in both from south of the border. Tavernier has scored an incredible 18/19 from RB having missed several pens and 2/3 mths because of injury(!) and I appreciate the standard is not the best but this is still some achievement. Celtic just have one or two who’s better days are behind them, a good example being their driving force Scott Brown. The prospect of Celtic getting 10 in a row probably did something to spur Rangers on too. Be good if Aberdeen could put more of a challenge in next season as well.

A difficult one this.
Whilst record breaking Rangers have had a league season that will never be bettered. They also have a decent budget and Players to go with it.
St Johnstone?, I don’t know but I suspect their budget will be akin to lower league 1.
And for that reason, them winning two domestic cups in one season is arguably a better achievement.

Not entirely sure, just going by what my Glaswegian mate said and he says he's watched every Celtic game this season and they were incredibly shit, his words, except in a nearly indecipherable accent
His names Yousef but you wouldn't know it if you were speaking on the phone, never heard a more Scottish accent lol

probably highlights how weird it must be to be a Celtic or Rangers fan. When he says they were incredibly shit, he can't really mean points tally...because thats not actually changed much. What he probably means is that whilst they were still winning nearly all the time, they were only winning 1 or 2 nil, as appose to 3 or 4 nil like they used to. For us Town fans that's a pretty odd state of affairs to get your head round!!

Due to Covid they only played 30 games last season compared to the 38 this, so they scored 3 less points in 8 more games. So, yes, they were shit this season 😪

fair point. I didn't realise that.
Must admit I was surprised to see they only had 3 points less as in the back of my mind I had noticed them losing quite a few by their standards.

St Johnstone?, I don’t know but I suspect their budget will be akin to lower league 1. And for that reason, them winning two domestic cups in one season is arguably a better achievement. An incredible achievement by St. Johnstone as you rightly say morleyterrier and without doubt the war cry in the pubs in Perth would’ve been MAKE MINE A DOUBLE ! Whilst record breaking Rangers have had a league season that will never be bettered ? In goals conceded in a top league only I’m afraid. They did break the 100 points barrier for the first time themselves but Celtic have already done it twice (2002) 103 and (2017) 106. The Hoops also went unbeaten the WHOLE domestic season that season. There is a whole lot of innuendo in Scotland about these type of ‘records’ between Celtic and Rangers and I’ve a mate who’s a staticstical anorak on such matters between the pair of them. While they share some kudos like 7 trebles each, when it comes to ‘in a rows’ grand slams, highest victories, longest unbeaten records, top goal scorers, most goals in a match, highest attendance, most minutes without conceding a goal, etc then Celtic are ahead by the length and breadth of Glasgow and more. My first decade supporting football 1980-90, Scottish football’s top league was very competitive with Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, or Dundee United all winning titles and Hearts just 6 minutes away from it being a quintuple. Tragically for the game a guy called David Murray took over Rangers, threw money he ultimately didn’t have at them, to buy them loads of silverware. Fergus McCann counteracted this at Celtic by offering shares to their vast support to raise revenue and ultimately the top league has never recovered since and unless gate money is split as it was until 1980 I don’t see this changing any time soon. No other league in Europe can be so lopsided by a duopoly for so long (since 1985) and it’s very unhealthy for Scottish football. Chairmen of teams like St. Mirren, St. Johnstone, Kilmarnock, Motherwell etc must despair at bus load after bus load of their town folk leaving for the short trip to Glasgow for a glory hunting one sided match (mostly) while their own stadiums lie virtually empty. Changed days from the early 80’s when Rangers were playing to some gates of 5,000 and Celtic also struggling to reach 10,000. So well done to Town fans for sticking with your hometown club and not packing train after train to Manchester for whatever glory United and more recently City have ‘purchased’ over the last three decades !
