Been betting since i was knee-high to a grasshopper. My Dad raced greyhounds, he used to knobble dogs or dye them on the kitchen table and put fake dogs in lower grades....he still lost. My first personal bet was aged about 12. I stood outside Jack Pearsons in Marsden pretending the slip was for my Mum. 50p at 6/1 on Red Crocodile....surely homage to Red Alligator who won the National in 1968. It won and with the £3 i took me and my mate on the bus to a Town match with fish and chips on top I was hooked on betting and i can honestly say it has never caused me a financial problem. As an aside Pearson was in the same class as my Dad at school, he was a bookies runner in the mills and when his Dad won £56k on the pools in the 1950's he bought properties and owned, at the peak, 20 betting shops. Unlike degenerates i never chased loses....i was known as Mr Cool in the casino when i was sneaking in aged just 18 with fake ID. Well, i outgrew the casino (more than 4 packs in a shoe did for me) and i ditched the horses (20% margin impossible to beat) and i just got better and better at it when i stuck to football. Football was my passion and when they ditched the 3 matches minimum i started to make hay. The internet rise just made it all so much easier....i went from driving around West Yorks to get 250 slips a weekend on to kicking back at home. Been banned more times than you can count...had dozens of online accounts with one bookie alone. I have three systems which return 5-6%....sounds great but to make £60k a year you have to get £1 million quid in bets on...and thats easier said than done. Now i am comfortable i bet a whole lot less....its just too time consuming....it can eat your days away. Anyway, the reason i started this thread was i am not sleeping because of my illness....i had a revelation whilst laid awake and i have found TWO new ways to make money in betting. It was a real "Eureka" moment. Ran the strike, odds and stakes through my betting programme (built for me by a gambling computer nut from Shrewsbury 12 years ago) and the system turns a 25% profit!!! Holy Grail stuff. So, today i will trial it and lets see how we get on. Problem is there are very few matches i can use which makes it more volatile early on. Hope you all win today and if you like coincidences have you seen there is a horse running called "Wembley" in France

An old man turned 98 He won the lottery and died the next day It's a black fly in your Chardonnay It's a death row pardon two minutes too late And isn't it ironic, don't you think? It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take And who would've thought, it figures Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye He waited his whole damn life to take that flight And as the plane crashed down, he thought "Well, isn't this nice?" And isn't it ironic, don't you think? It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take And who would've thought, it figures

Good stuff Oti, if it doesn’t work I’m sure you’ll clear up at the Olympics again!
Enjoy the final tonight, hopefully you have plans despite UEFA shafting you.

I started having a bet on the horses when i was 18 in 1976, my first meeting was a Friday night meeting at Ponte Carlo and my first winner on course was Dogberry ridden by Frankie Durr at 5/2. Fast forward 45 years and over 30 course's, racing is a fantastic sport, my brother had shares in over 20 horses over a 15 year period. We went to many a stable open day up in North Yorkshire "Middleham" mainly and there are some fantastic set ups. We won and we lost! but we only lost what we could afford to lose and we never chased what we lost that is when a problem can start. I never back on football and stick to the horse's "horses for courses" and you wont go wrong.
A reference to Oti and the horse called Wembley running in France, i was once in the bookies about 35yrs back and there was a race in France with a horse running called "Robinson Crusoe" and the jockey was called "M Friday".
Come On England

Sky Bet have an offer of 3/1 for £10 stake on England 90 minutes win. Draw is 2/1 and Italy 2/1. Put £10 on each outcome gives you a £10 profit if England win and break even with the other outcomes. Get on this rare no-lose bet!

Oti, if Denise lets you have a bet I’d advise you to research low scoring leagues and take advantage of the bore draw offer with 365.
In some divisions the 0-0 can be as short as 2/1 so you’re getting 33.33% for free.
Just play 1-0 either side and the 1-1 draw in leagues where the goal quotes are 1.5-1.75 and you can’t lose long term.
Keep going fella.

Must be the first time ever a free bet has won for me !

Couple games today in Iran where you’re getting 23% with the bore draw.

Sorry to pour cold water on this happy gamblers thread but my dad had a gambling problem when I was a kid. Back in Oti’s glorious 50s, not long after rationing had ended, we, like most folk I knew, didn’t have much by way of spare income but my dad would still spend Saturday afternoon in the bookies. My mum never knew how much he actually earned but I can’t help thinking things would have been easier without his gambling.
My mum knew and gave him the hard word when I was about 10. He started sending me down there for him but I only went twice. I hated going in the place and my mum found out so that stopped. I think I have been in a bookies twice since to put a bet on The National and I mute all online gambling ads as it still effects me. ‘Please gamble responsibly’, similar to health warnings on cigarettes.
It is not for me.

Trouble was the bookies pulled 5 of the games at 5.30am I would have won retirement money first time out! I won pips but hope springs eternal.

I don’t blame my dad for having a problem with gambling, he was human and it was one of his few weaknesses. Many Industries use people’s weakness to make their money. Gambling companies are one of many. For those who can manage to participate in any potentially addictive activity and not get hooked it’s fine, for those who cannot it is far from it and it often affects those close to us. We all have baggage.
