Ruptured achillies tendon in training with Preston. Just not happening for the lad.I think there was a player in there but too many injuries.

I like to think that Preston training involves practising twatting the ball forwards, and knee highing the trainee kids.

Only a week or so since he said he still thought he could play for England π€¦π»ββοΈ
Whilst Iβm not sure that was ever quite on the cards Iβm pretty sure he had a future as a middling prem player if he hadnβt ended up broken. Heβs started 25 games since he left here 4 years ago. Shame for the lad.

On the list of players who seemed to peak that season (who you would have expected to either carry on at the same level or progress further) Izzy Brown Kasey Palmer Michael Hefele Tommy Smith (probably a tad unfair, but not had the same impact at Stoke) Elias Kachunga

Iβve thought a lot about the players in the promotion squad along with the ones mentioned above specifically. With hindsight maybe the genius who knew their strengths that year was wagner mixed with a lot of effort and a sprinkle of magic. Hence why no one has gone onto βbetterβ things since?

Those niggling injuries seemed to completely halt his progress and Iβm not sure heβs any better now than he was then. Hef was never going to be any better than championship. Technically decent but too slow and immobile for the prem, thatβs why he was instantly replaced by Zanka who was no better footballer but far more mobile. I think Smith lost a yard of pace he couldnβt afford to lose during his injury hit premier league years otherwise he could have easily done well. Kachunga was a trier who had an excellent 6 months after joining but he was never good enough. Billing sort of progressed but had/has the talent to be much more.

Could have been a different ball game then. Might have sat back and deep on a goal. I'm glad we did it the way we did. If you're gonna go up, do it in the play offs and on penalties....

I thought Kachunga was going to cut it in the Premier league.
There was talk before we went up of Everton being interested.
I think the injury he got in the 2017 Championship season took that flash of pace off him and he wasn't ever really back after that. Think we rusjed him back and managed to get 60/70 mins out of him at Hillsborough in the playoffs but he looked ineffective (by the standard he had set himself pre injury) and never hit those heights he had shown in that season again for Town.
It genuinely makes me feel sad he doesn't have a club, he seems a very good character and would've liked to have seen him have a good career after Town but the truth is that Championship standard is too high a level for him now.
Football moves on so quickly..
Izzy Brown was allegedly priced at Β£10 million by Chelsea four years ago and playing fairly regularly at prem level for Brighton before his first long term injury. Cruel buisness for a lad who's still only 24. I know he'll have earnt alot from the game even with the short career he has had but he could've had a real career had he just had abit more luck.
He gave us that energy and spring during that promotion campaign when he came in. Truely superb performances against Brighton, Leeds and QPR all in the space of about 9 days.

Do wonder whether Chelsea train their youngsters in a certain way that increases their injury propensity.
Brown and Palmer both struggle , whilst players like Loftus Cheek seem to too. Admittedly small sample but I canβt think of many Chelsea academy graduates to really kick on bar Terry, Abraham and Bertrand

Unbelievable progress made by him since working with Bielsa, don't think anyone expected him to have the season he had last year.

Declan Rice and Mason Mount too Forgot about them two , both fantastic in euros. Bamford a weird one for me as has definitely progressed but a really good striker for Leeds last season would have bagged 40 the amount of chances they create (and he misses) . Also can never forgive him for antics against Villa a few years ago !!!
