There was a time when our beloved club took cup competitions seriously. Who remembers the 1968 league cup run?
Wolves at home .... 1-0 Colin Dobson Norwich away ..... 1-0 Jimmy Nic. West Ham home... 2-0 Frankie and Chris Cattlin Fulham after a replay.... 2-1 Arsenal in the semi final... a battling 2-3 in the first leg at Highbury and then a Tony Leighton equaliser at home, but it wasn't to be and finished 1-3.
Come on Carlos, pick our best eleven for the Wendies please?

Fulham replay - extra time - Shaw mis-kick, scored at second attempt - up there with some of the best memories Arsenal - Leighton equaliser - always worried Arsenal could move up a gear - and unfortunately they did

I remember being there that night, me and my mate both ten yr old's went with my mates dad. We parked up in the terrace car park where there was massive queue's, we queued up for the terrace and my mates dad lifted us both over the turn style saying " they wont be able to see owt so i am not paying for them" and he was right i just remember the atmosphere and a big crowd.

What about 1999(I think)?
Home to Wimbledon, took the lead and should have beaten them. They scored a wind assisted thunderbastard of a free kick and won it extra time.
I think the winner went to the QF.
It was the game where Wijnhard was fouled in the box in the last minute of normal time but Jeff Winter, the absolute cock end, waved it away.
Ian Ayre wanted to sue him afterwards ππ

Iβll never forget the 68 cup run.
Too young at that time to go to a game, Iβll always remember the match reports in The Examiner, with photos of the game and Arsenal playing in black and white hooped socks.
Itβs a real shame that a cup so special then, has become what it has now.

I seem to remember I went to every game in that run, Scunthorpe over 2 legs, Notts County over 2 legs, Chelsea away the Wimbledon at home.

Definitely Wijnhard; he carried the defender on his back for a few paces.

Definitely Wijnhard; he carried the defender on his back for a few paces. Almost certain it was Stewart. A few years after England lost 3-1 at home to West Germany in a first leg Euro quarter-final in 1972, I was sure that Gerd Muller had scored the late penalty to make it 2-1. My mate was similarly certain it was Gunther Netzer. It took us quite a while in those days to settle the issue and I was horrified when it turned out to be Netzer. I have the Wimbledon game on video but my video player is knackered. Couldn't find it on YouTube either nor any match report on Google. But if I'm right that the player who was fouled actually carried the Wimbledon defender several strides on his back - which made it unbelievable that Winter didn't see it as a penalty - who might you expect to be the more physically capable of doing that - Marcus or Clyde? I'm not anticipating another Netzer moment. www.theguardian.com/football/1999/dec/02/newsstory.sport2Instead of writing all that shit above I should have tried googling 'Clyde Wijnhard penalty claim turned down'.

Was lucky enough to see the Norwich match in the '68 run. Jimmy Nick's goal was a belter. The performance against West Ham was very good and the lads gave it their all against Arsenal. A great run and was pleased I saw several of the games. I've lived in Wester Ross for the last 33 years so get little chance to see the Town these days but those sorts of memories [as well as the early '60s cup victory against Wolves and our 1-5 demolition of West Ham on an icy pitch] are things you never forget. Up the Town!

The Arsenal away semi final highlights were on TV the same night as the game. Fantastic atmosphere for the second leg. One of my favourite nights in the Cowshed despite the result.

I was in the Cowshed that night too MacJinx and you're so right, the atmosphere was fantastic. Some of those night matches at Leeds Road were immense. The late, dear old Tony Leighton gave everything on the pitch that night. There was a hint in those late Sixties seasons that we could be on the up and up - even if, in true Town style, only for a while!

Put my hand through a door window and severed my wrist that afternoon trying to push a snow blocked door closed. It bloody hurt, but a few hours and several stitches later, I was behind the goal when Tony Leighton put Town one up against Arsenal. As the away side gradually assumed control, the pain returned, itβs a day Iβll never forget.
