Great research Phil and interesting to read indeed..
While undoubtedly there are a lot of foreign gems out there in the game, I think that a club like Huddersfield Town need a good core of uk nationals to ādealā with the rigours of The championship which is a brutal and unforgiving competitive environment.
Carlos has very stoic ideology in that he wants to play a fast paced passing game, but in reality in this league you need one helluva talented squad to sustain that over the course of a season.
Maybe better results can be ground out by a team full of Brits and Irish that can put it about brick for brick, boot for boot, and bottle for bottle so to speak if desired. Not very pleasing on the eye but it certainly worked out for, say Preston North End this last few seasons..
Itāll be interesting to see what selections ensue as the season progresses...

How often have we had a team full of Yorkshiremen though? Or ten out of eleven as our own version of Celtic's "Lisbon Lions", where 10 of the team were from Glasgow with the 11th being from somewhere like Kilmarnock.
Even the glory years of the 1920s had Alec Jackson who was Scottish.

Before my time Quanercoma and only seen video footage, but aye... The Lisbon Lions were indeed unique. A band of close brothers - and crucially - a mixture of Catholic & Protestant Lads who gave not a damn about the cancer of sectarianism that seeps throughout pockets of Scotland, and they graced both Scottish footy and became Champions of The continent of Europe, the first British team to achieve this accolade. They also won the treble as well as The European Cup in 1966/67 and even won a local regional tournament called The Glasgow cup. As as far as I know no other UK team has achieved this although I think maybe Man City came close to emulating The Lisbon Lions a few years ago, the difference is City wouldāve āpurchasedā it and to me itās just not the same as building a team like Jock Stein did. I think Celtic were pretty much also rans for the best part of a decade before Stein arrived and he had them Champions of Europe within two years. Definately Scotlandās Herbert Chapman equivalent was āBig Jockā - The First Great Manager !

Didn't we once have a team of Andy Booth's, or did I just dream that?
