Apparently we are allowed to discuss issues with running the board on this sub-forum.
So I thought I'd try a little poll.
Just to see how many people are missing the politics sub-forum, and who, perhaps quietly, tacitly approves of its removal.
I hope I'm not stepping on any toes, or breaking any rules by doing this.
I also hope the poll options are inclusive enough to represent people's views.
Interested to gauge opinion in this small corner of the internet.

This is a football forum. It exists to discuss footballing issues pertaining to Huddersfield Town. If you want a politics forum go and create one. Or join the other forum where politics is allowed.

For a long time, it also existed to facilitate discussion of politics and current affairs between Huddersfield Town fans, which could be interesting and worthwhile, since supporters of the same football club often have divergent political views. It also has an off-topic sub-forum, a mental health sub-forum - and even this forum and admin rules sub-forum. Thanks for your input, however.

Not looking to get into an argument, but: link - it's dead easy to see a member's recent posts, and more of your recent posts have been about Formula 1 than "footballing issues pertaining to Huddersfield Town". That, and shower gel.

I'm a bit confused. If threads were archived (i.e. explicitly not deleted) shouldn't I be able to see my posts in my profile?
Yet it appears that my posts have completely gone. Stuff about the most innocent of subjects with the lightest of touches.
This is a bit mental.

I created a poll yesterday that wasn't even about politics and it vanished overnight, so if yours is still here in the morning then maybe a small amount of progress has been made.

I couldn't give a shiny shite either way.
I just wish some of the attention seeking, incontinent posters would show a little restraint.
They wont, of course.

But if the politics board stuck to discussion and not personal abuse and attack then perhaps it might still be there.I read the politics board sometimes, but I never posted, simply because there was always someone waiting in the wings to have a pop. I wont miss it at all. Go to Mels site - there is enough political discussion on there to last a life time, and to be honest, its only a very small minority, when compared to total DATM members that ever used it.

No probs mate and I agree with all of that, apart from joining Mel’s site. I like it on here as the lions share of posters are decent folk who share a passion for our great club. One or two overstep the mark but I’d argue that that also regularly happens on the football threads. What I cannot understand is the separation of politics from everyday life simply because it is impossible. Politics will rear its head and spats will still happen, only thins time, they will be all over the main board. Btw, I rate you as a decent poster too! Cheers

Completely agree Keith
VERY rarely posted on anything political, because no matter your views, somebody somewhere will get personal.
But I think the sub forum (or whatever they're called) should still exist for those that want to argue and belittle each other.
Noticed already that the threads on the main board are being hijacked more than they used to, or so it appears.

Seems like some of the posters that posted regularly on the politics and current affairs sub-board and who invariably ended up getting into petty squabbles with others, are now infesting threads on TOTT where, guess what, they’re taking over certain threads and getting into petty squabbles with others, mostly the same posters they squabbled with on the sub-board before it was removed.
The admins say it was the level of personal abuse and argument that drove them to their decision to remove the sub-board, so why the hell are they allowing the same mouthy arseholes to take over and ruin TOTT?
SPOTY and Getting into the ground threads for starters.

Everyone has an opinion, that’ll never go away so let it have a home where it can be channelled down the right route.

At least in the political sub-board, there was a warning about heated debates. That’s not to say we don’t get heated debates in TOTT. I do understand the problems facing the admins though. But if someone has doxxed, ban them. If someone has offered someone ‘outside’, ban them. Removing the politics board will negatively impact on the main board imo.

And sure, F1 is a big topic right now - but then politics is a big topic at the same time, and also - all of the rest of the time. Personally, I couldn't care less about F1 - can't watch more than five minutes of a race, deadly boring to me - but that's cool, we all have different interests - I just don't click on it. As I say, not looking to quarrel

If people wanted to debate/discuss/argue political points, they knew where to go. If people didn't want to see it, they stayed away. It was a system that worked. Instead what we now get is a political point/rant on every other post on TOTT from the usual suspects. If the issue was it was too loosely regulated, then rather than shutting the whole thing down, surely the solution is to regulate it more? Or act on the reported posts which the admins have admitted they never did in that section.

The fact that a thread like “Getting into the ground” which was supposedly a thread about getting into football grounds given the new Covid regulations, and which was posted on the appropriate forum (Talk of the Town) has now been locked, perfectly illustrates the stupidity of the admins flawed approach to dealing with anything they now consider to be remotely political.
What a complete mess of their own making. Well done admins. You’ve managed to fuck up TOTT now for the sake of a political sub board.

I would have to agree with the post, It seems as though various threads on TOTT are now being hijacked to voice political views which I doubt was the intention when the politics sub board was scrubbed. I think the admins should reinstate the politics board, I don't believe its really that toxic as some make out, most posters seem to get on relatively well, although there are a few spats occasionally . The new format is clearly not working, and I am positive that future threads on TOTT are going to be locked because of political comments.

The problem I have is that I don't understand why the board was removed. The explanation given just doesn't hold water. I've seen nothing in the rules that suggests Admins would be held in any way liable for anything posted on here (unless they posted it themselves). If it's simply a case of "This is an absolute ball-ache to administer & I can't be arsed to spend hours of my time - unpaid - to deal with those occasions where somebody feels another poster has overstepped the mark", I could understand that. But they haven't said that. And it seems easily solvable anyway (e.g. Bring in a new admin team solely for the politics board & have kennyk2 , Rigodon & Gag_N_Bone_Man (Destabiliser) to admin the rest of the forum. In much the same way as we have Wingman as admin on the mental health board). If there's been further communication to the admins from Proboards, somebody's lawyer or whatever else that supercedes the Proboards regulations, I could understand that. But if that's the case, then why not publish what's been said so that we can at least understand? I've had a lot of sympathy with the admins up to now, but the loss of that sub-board has diminished the forum quite significantly. As far as I can see, unnecessarily so.

Separate board. If people want to talk about it, let them not clog up good other boards. It possibly also stops admins from having as much to do.
One thought I have is that DATM is taken WAY too seriously by both some posters and admins.
