Games tend to be split now, six on a Tuesday, six on a Wednesday so that they can be screened.

Without Sky's brass we'd still be playing in crap stadiums, with crap pitches and players earning not a great deal more than the average man in the street. Oh for the good old days.

It's what football is about, not playing on bowling greens for ridiculous money. It will go belly up soon, would hate to pay the bill for floodlighting!. Wednesday have right idea, fans with phone torches!!

Two sides to every story. Like the PL or not, there’s no denying it’s the best League in the world where most of the best players in the world are on show. That’s down to Sky too.

Liverpool n Spurs were best in 1st season I thought, Chelsea good too, the prem basically didnt do owt to float my boat, would rather watch non league if given the choice between the 2.

Football was on its knees in the 80's...hooliganism, low crowds, stadiums falling apart etc, sky got involved and although i dont like a lot of sky's influence and what they do for the most part its been good for the game, my main gripe about the modern game is the obscene amounts of money involved, but its not just here it sprevalent in all the major European leagues.

Every night was a pub night pre Sky, but eventually time catches up on you and I'm glad of a seat now after a few pre match pots

Yeah maybe it’s that I was young, but the old grounds had great character the atmosphere was far better than it is now, I suppose the terraces were the main thrill though. A great miss and such a shame new generations of fans will never get to really experience the buzz of the terraces. Went to Rotherham this year and walked past the old stadium you can see the away end and walk past the small path leading down to the great away end. A million times better away day then rather than the soulless pretty new stadium. Away days were bloody brilliant many years ago and I would have loved seeing my lad experience it. Before anyone starts I appreciate they were more dangerous, but I’d go back to it in a flash.

Many L1 grounds still have standing, so that could be a plus.

For a lot of fans its where a lot of our memories are, good and bad, being on a packed terrace or a sparsely populated one where you could ride a bike around, something had to change though. Safe standing areas have been trialled at grounds here and abroad, in fact Tottenham's ground has safe standing which i thought was well designed, maybe one day safe standing will be implemented at all grounds but with a new generation of fans sitting is are all they've ever known apart from some away games where everyone seems to stand anyway.

Sky are not interested in the health of the game, other than the PL and even then the bias towards the moneyed clubs is fairly obvious.
The EFL deal is similar in that they have to choose the occasional L1 or L2 game as part of it, but they will always want the EFL games to be focused around the competition for a place in the greedy league.
It’s all about TV & betting. Once the ESL kicks back into life, see where their focus goes… 💰💰💰💰

I was just watching a bit of the SPL game between St Johnstone & Celtic. Prompted me to look at the wage difference between the SPL and the EPL. According to a 2021 article the average salary of SPL players is ten times less than the EPL and also below L1 in the EFL.
The Sky deal for the SPL is worth £125m, the EPL deal is worth £4.7bn.
That deal is due to expire in 2025, so it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if the ESL thing was churning away in the background right now. Why would Sky want to try and renew that deal in a couple of years, paying the PL another multi £bn sum, only to find they’ve lost their star attractions?
Worst case, I’d expect the ESL to be up & running within the next 7 years, it’ll happen.
The big Q then for Sky, would be how much the Sky Sports subscription would be priced at for access to the EPL & EFL. I expect many subscribers might reconsider if they wanted to maintain the same pricing structure.

I'd have thought they'd still be focusing on the play-off contenders this time of the season, 6 pointer type games.
If there's still survival at stake come the Cardiff game, that would the one they'll go for.
