Hi all, hopefully someone out there can help me.
I've got a number of older games (from about 2005-6) that I regularly played exclusively on my older laptop.
This week this older laptop gave up the ghost completely so I installed the games on this one.
However, even though they've installed correctly when I double click to load them I get a message saying access restricted, log out and log back in as an Administrator.
Now mine is the only account on my newer laptop and is set up as Administrator already and every time I log out and back in it just keeps bringing up the same message so I'm thinking maybe they're not compatible with newer Windows?
Thought I'd ask the clever chaps and chapesses on here before I ask Firaxis, SI and the other company I can't remember off the top of my head.
Any help or info much appreciated thanks.
Edit: Just in case anyone would be worried, they are all originals, not pirated copies.

That age of game is highly unlikely to be compatible with modern Windows software. I had the same issue with a really old game that won’t work on my newish laptop, and found it’s to do with the ‘direct X’ (I think) code of Windows that was in place to stop piracy. As more games are downloads and not physical software, that piece of coding was eliminated from Windows over the years, hence it won’t recognise software using a CD anymore.
At least that was the nub of my problem!

Thanks Wingman I thought (but hoped not) that maybe the case or something similar! Had to buy a separate CD drive for the newer laptop as they generally don't have a CD drive in them anymore, which is annoying for old gamers like me! Oh well at least Civ and Pirates work lol

Same here mosher, I had to get an external disc drive with the laptop too. I’m a bloody philistine compared to the modern pc gamers, I just like the odd go on old football management sims and the like! Mind you I had to also buy an external HDD for my iTunes; the laptop wasn’t happy with the extent of music I needed to copy over 😂

Go to where the actual program is (not the shortcut that's probably on your desktop) and right click then properties. Go to the compatibility tab. Tick the 'Run this program as administrator' option, apply, ok.
Should work now.

I've found installing older games from a disc to a newer version of Windows quite hit and miss when I've tried it. If it's a well-known game chances are someone's made a patch for it that could help (if you like to tinker) or there's sites like Good Old Games where you can download them pre-patched if you didn't mind paying again. Games of that era can go for a couple quid on sale.

Thanks Mastercracker and ceefax I will give them both a try, although I'll have to reinstall them; I uninstalled them after reading the reply from Wingman lol Champers I don't really need a high end machine for the games I like, not even had a console since the PS2. I'm into strategy or RPG stuff: Civ, Dune2000, Black & White, Might & Magic series, that kinda stuff so don't really need top of the line graphics or sound. Nearest I get to arcade or fast paced stuff is Pirates, love that game 😃

😬 and here ends the IT lesson from me. In short, I don’t know a right lot! Hopefully it works for you mosher; my games were too old for Admin privileges on a pc!
