As a huge Town fan who isn’t from Yorkshire let alone Huddersfield can I ask some locals the following questions out of interest….. A) when you went to school were town the best supported in the school?
B) Are there parts of Kirklees (modern term I know) where we have really good support?
C) Why do we have a good following from the spen valley? ( I think we do? My dad is from there)
Please ignore if questions sound daft !

I'm from HD2 originally and there was about 2 other Town fans at school, this was in the 80's though when crowds were quite low and football was that fashionable really, not to attend games.

Anyone who's not from CleckHecmondSedge will never get the leeds dislike/hatred. If anyone says it's not reciprocal in Spenborough, they've never lived there (or at least grew up there)

HD9 (Holmfirth).
A reasonable amount of town fans. A few glory supporting Man Utd fans when I was growing up. No Leeds or Bradford fans in Holmfirth so a town stronghold, albeit not huge in population size.

A) Nope - Nottingham Forest (primary school) and Liverpool (high school) - I was born in 1970.. B) Good support in Huddersfield obviously.. and Honely and Kirkburton from days out boozing in these places.. C) Not sure If Batley is in The Spen (just used to hearing about Batley and Spen a bit on the TV over the years) - but did spend a lot of time in Batley boozing with ma late great Stevie’s family when he was down on holiday.. and it’s huge with Leeds fans there and not many of a Huddersfield Town persuasion... they used to get a hard time for being big Man Utd fans and if I thought the company in the pubs were ok folks I’d declare ma love for Huddy Town and get less - shall we call it ‘banter’ - than Stevie and his brothers !

Yes Heckmondwike is where my dad is from, his dad (my grandad, huge town fan) started taking him in the 50s, guessing we were a reasonably big local draw then, cheers for replies ,interesting to me.

I'm from HD2 originally and there was about 2 other Town fans at school, this was in the 80's though when crowds were quite low and football was that fashionable really, not to attend games. Jeez - Christ even I can match that in ma high school in The 80’s - there was myself the biggest Town fan and ironically enough another lad in my year called Marcus that I see from time to time and Town are the main topic of course ! He came here when his dad purchased The Islay Wollen Mill in 1981 - they came from Brighouse I believe and I’d imagine his dad and possibly his mum would be Huddersfield Town fans - I’ll need to ask next time I see him... In a feature to celebrate their 40th anniversary in our local community newspaper which I kept as it mentions that Gordon was ‘Huddersfield Trained’ and the wife is a skilled textile worker, it’s the original machinery from 1883 as the latest machinery would mean demolishing walls and as he understands these machines he doesn’t want to go down that line and there are two rare spinning Jennies’ and a Slubbing Billy make the mill of important historical interest - (I know nothing of these machines but have just read this and presume a boozer I’ve drank in from Huddersfield called The Slubbers Arms could be called this because of mill machinery - as I thought it something else like a drunken Slubber or something like that)... The mill do tweeds for thirty estates and have broken into making tweeds for the international film industry... I’m certainly not a big film fan and never watch any, but one they did tweed and tartan for was Braveheart - am I the only bloody Scotsman that has never yet seen this movie !!!!

Lived in Bennett Lane, Dewsbury till I was 18. Most kids around supported Leeds. But as my dad was on Huddersfield's books as a junior, he never got any further and went on to play for the now defunct Ossett Albion, it was off to Leeds Road we would go on a Saturday afternoon.

As my username suggests, HD7. Left CVHS in 92 around the time Man Utd were just beginning their resurgence, so there were plenty of 'fans' knocking around at school. Was instilled in me from an early age that if you were from Huddersfield, you supported Town and that was that.

Born in HD1 and went to scummy Moorend in 70s remember it was a split between Leeds ,Liverpool and Man Utd ,none went to matches so yes glory hunters ,few Town fans but suppose mid to late 70s was hardly the best time to boast of being a Town fan .

HD8 but also lived in HD9 and HD5
Loads of Town fans in all those areas. Probably more than the glory boy fans combined. When you drive around you see loads of kids in their Town shirts in comparison to all the other shirts combined

I lived in Hartshead and whilst at school I used to walk over the fields to the 3 Nunns, then think it was a short walk to the Cowshed. I suppose I was lucky, cos from the top of Prospect Road, where I was born, you could actually see the ground. Edit: if Town were away I used to walk all the way to Lucas's in Doggus to get a green paper which arrived incredibly before 6!!!!!!

Almondbury Junior Huddersfield New College Remember the old Cowshed chant with one section singing “Almondbury” quickly followed by “wankers” from the rest. We were the last year of the 11+ exams and remember thinking you’ve got to pass that or you’ll end up at Almondbury High School where you’ll get beaten up on a daily basis if you fail. Don’t remember who supported who but remember the first couple of lines of the school song - We’re boys of the sturdy north land Midst mills and mines we live

I left Colne Valley High School in 1973, my mates largely followed town but we had a scattering of Leeds fans and an avid Sheffield United nut.

He was the local chimney sweep, probably not be allowed to call him that these days!
