I just feel sad. It's not been all bad. Some of the criticism has been beyond harsh. Some claim that the players aren't playing for him. They are. They want to win as much as ever. There are good bits. I've seen HTFC sides that couldn't give a fuck and this isn't one of them. There are good passages of play. Each performance that I've seen (Burnley and Brum aside) has given some cause for hope. This one included. We've had some atrocious luck. Hawkeye not working, JR hitting the post... etc. Expectations have maybe been raised too high when the table said we were the 3rd best side in the EFL but the eye said otherwise. There's stuff you can't legislate for. 2 absolute sitters missed by Yuta and Ward. If there's 100 parallel universes out there, we probably won that game in 80 of them. But at some stage you have to bite the bullet and say it's not working. 9 games in all competitions and 7 defeats tells its own tale. Some of it comes down to recruitment. We've lost some key players and they've only been half replaced. There's not a lot we can do about that until January but it should have been obvious the day those players left. We needed Mbete to be as good as Colwill. We've only seen him once but good lord he is not fit to lace Levi's boots. We needed Ruffels to step up quickly. He's a backup and nothing more. Nakayama? Potentially a cracking player but needs to have a settled position on the left of a back 3, pushing forward when the opportunity arises. He's got some great attributes but he ain't a LWB. It's a game with fine margins and never more so than in this division. It's that 1% here and that half % there that's the difference between winning and losing. Sadly we're about 10% away from where we should be. Someone else said that Schofield might be the right manager at the wrong time. He may yet prove to be an outstanding head coach one day. But crucially, he isn't one now. I always want it to work, whoever has the hot seat, but with Schofield more than most. And he can justifiably claim that bad luck has done for him. But I'm struggling to see where our next win is coming from until something changes. We can be fair. We can wait. Give him every opportunity. But if he doesn't get there soon, we can look forward to League 1 football next season, as we're cut adrift and the new guy is on a hiding to nothing trying to claw back a huge gap to 4th bottom. I can accept one more game. Just. But if we don't beat Cardiff at the weekend then no matter how unlucky we may claim to have been it's time to go. Honestly, I think the time is now. Not sure I disagree with a single word. Measured and fair unlike some of the 'look at me' drama Queens on here. Actually only thing I might say is that touch unfair on an 18 year old on first appearance....levi had some.dodgy games but only after he'd built.up a bank of goodwill with the rest of his performances.

I have seen absolutely nothing to tell me he woukd be a top manager/head coach one day. Zilch. I also think you are wrong and the players aren't playing for him. The body language and the ill discipline was plain to see today. Our game plan is non existent, our tactics are baffling, our players are being played out of position, we insist on passing the ball backwards or sideways constantly, we don't press, we stand like statues for throw ins, there is no movement off the ball, our strikers couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, we can't keep a settled side and the manager is about as motivating as a statue on the touchline. Apart from that everything is tickety boo

I agree with much of that but I think the players are confused with how they’re being asked to play. They don’t know what to do either in possession or out of possession to my eyes and look really low on confidence. We’ve had small passages of good play but on the whole we just look incredibly disjointed.

I pretty much agree with every point there and couldn’t have put it better myself. However in my personal opinion I wouldn’t give him Cardiff as even if we were to get a result it’s probably just kicking the can further down the road. I do feel for the bloke as away from the spotlight I think he would probably admit he wasn’t ready but couldn’t turn it down. I think bromby and dean have to accept some blame however I think Carlos’ decision seemingly came very out of the blue also. For me schofield probably goes now,the players may pull something out at the weekend and then a new guy has two weeks to try and do something,if the club have any sense they will have been lining someone up for a couple of weeks now. Let’s wait and see though.

I'd prefer Daniel Farke to wagner personally... or Valérien Ismaël Farke is busy with the Borussia Monchengladbach job. You really need to renew those news network subscriptions. Keep up.

You could argue you make your own luck. Ridiculous to compare Colwill to Mbette after 1 game… Mbette came into a side devoid of confidence, in a stadium with a toxic undertone to it atmosphere and under a coach who was a defensive master against one who has yet to keep a clean sheet. Also tough introduction into Mens football with the likes of Josh magennis. Regards making our own luck this could be argued that we were lucky to finish 3rd… however from December onwards I went to every game not expecting to lose such was the strength of our rearguard coupled with tactical shithousery…. Something Wigan had in abundance tonight.

Actually only thing I might say is that touch unfair on an 18 year old on first appearance....levi had some.dodgy games but only after he'd built.up a bank of goodwill with the rest of his performances. Potentially unfair on Mbete but: 1) 18 or otherwise that was a dreadful debut. Some good attributes but some horrible mistakes too. 2) Colwill was exceptional. I genuinely believe that he's one of those players that people will be talking about in 30 years. I'm not writing him off. But part of the problem is that we needed either a new LWB to replace Toffolo, or we needed a LCB and for Nakayama to find his feet out wide. And we needed instant results. I don't rate Josh Ruffels but I honestly believe he's the best LWB at the club right now. I've fought Bromby's corner before now but he has had a mare this summer. And it was so nearly really, really good.

As many others have said I really liked Danny as a player but he just doesn't look ready for this level. I really hope he is simply given his old coaching role back as sacking him and having to leave the club would be harsh on a good guy. He needs to be mentored by an experienced coach/manager as part of his future development.

Can you go from manager back to a coaching role? Egos normally get in the way of that sort of thing.

I don’t think that Schofield is the right man for the job. If he did walk/ or gets the sack, equally that worries me is Hoyle’s record on appointing managers. For me anyone responsible for appointing Jan Siewert should never be involved in football, let alone be given such a task again.

Even if he is offered a coaching role he may be too embarrassed to take it. Not to mention how awkward it could be when the new manager arrives. I think he’ll be completely gone sadly which is a shame as he played a key role as part of the coaching staff supporting Carlos. Then again he can have no complaints - he took the job and has simply proven he’s not up to it. Probably will get a decent pay off. It’s been an absolute shambles. Dean and Leigh have to take the brunt of responsibility for appointing him. There is nothing in his personality or tactics so far to say he can cut it as a manager. Let’s just hope it doesn’t cost us our championship status. If it does Dean’s already tarnished legacy will be completely obliterated.

I'd just add that for all that my post seems harsh on Mbete, the position he's been put in is harsh.
We are piss weak on the LHS of defence and our season relies on both Nakayama adapting to an unfamiliar role in an unfamiliar league AND an 18 year old showing exceptional ability AND maturity.
We've pinned our hopes on some players in key positions coming good unusually quickly.
Sometimes you'll roll a 6, but FFS don't rely on that every time!

Totally agree about egos - but Danny S doesn't seem to have much of an ego, and certainly not the ego you would see in most managers, good or bad.Show me a good manager and I'll show you a big ego. He seems to be a pleasant young man who was offered a job way beyond his abilities (at the moment - he might be more ready in a couple of years, though I doubt it). The problem is is that the Hoyle/Bromby set up precludes almost anybody with the"right" ego coming here. A Sean Dyche, for example (and I would love him) just wouldn't accept the present Town set-up for a moment, even if we were to afford him. I've no idea what the answer is - Dean Hoyle seems to have boxed himself into a corner and the whole Hoyle/Bromby thing - of which they both seem so proud - just doesn't seem to fit in to the recruitment of a decent manager.

Tonight’s crowd announced at just under 18k. Leave it out, there was a good 5k less than that there (loads of regulars round by us were a no-show tonight) and it’ll only get worse if this mess carries on. Kid for a quid on Saturday but I’d say that was child cruelty.

about as reliable as Dr Nose This is the problem with social media... everybody likes to be ITK. If you miss the dart board it doesn't really matter anymore. Lots of wannabes out there. I think it’s also that the SM platforms stick 25 dart boards out there as well. Bastards…

I think we've been caught being complacent, looking too long-term and not dealing with the immediate needs. Too much energy and money spent on potential, not enough on staying in the league.
It's a hard balance, because we do need to keep finding the Karlan Grants of the world to keep us ticking over, but if we drop then the model goes out of the window if we're already overspending on infrastructure. And if we drop... we're not coming back anytime soon.

It's utterly woeful. Sadly, he doesn't seem to have a clue. We can all see it. It won't change on Saturday. The result might (hopefully) but it would be more by luck than good judgement.

Apart from that everything is tickety boo Not just me who's noticed that when we have a throw the opposition make us work hard for it, yet our players just let them have it. Baffling.

Their (Wigan's) gamesmanship, shithousery and general 'wanting it more' was plain to see last night.
We've been outdone in that department pretty much every game this season.

anyone else notice how unfit we look this season?
All that so-called premier league quality medical and support staff and we look knackered after 15 minutes.

Sadly for me he has to go - straight away
Even if we beat Cardiff I’d still sack him and use the international break to get a new guy in to have time with the players
Best to do it today. Start the interviews and have a new guy in after the weekend. Rather than spend the international break doing interviews etc and losing valuable time to install new tactics/ ideas
DS is a good guy but not suited to management I’m afraid
