The fact that he scored a tap in from 5 yards out was more than evened out by the complete air shot he did right in front of the south stand. It was incredible.
His performance summed up what his career has come to. He doesn’t have the pace anymore (which he didn’t have much of anyway) to provide an attacking threat. He will never be any more than a lower end championship/top of league one player and even then he doesn’t stand out at that level.

But he was too good for us on the night which should set alarm bells ringing despite some of the youth showing promise.

But he was too good for us on the night which should set alarm bells ringing despite some of the youth showing promise. I don't think he was. He was in the right place for his goal, but he struck me as a decent holding, jobbing midfielder for the most part. I can't recall him running the show, just being reasonably competent at his job. Scoring the goal would have been the icing on the cake for him. He's one of these modern pros who have earned a far better living from the game than the likes of star players in the 60's, 70's & 80's, in relative terms. Him and many others are just fortunate to be having their careers whilst there's a glut of money sloshing around the top 2 divisions. Can't see him becoming a postie when he retires, like Neil Webb. He'd struggle to reach the door on the pack of the postboxes to be fair...

Better than he was for most of his time here (if only because he actually stepped on to the pitch rather than crying off "injured" with a zit on his leg) but nowhere near the player I thought we were getting when we signed him. What did for us was awful finishing. Luke o'Nien looked decent for them but I don't recall anyone else on their side impressing me at all.

You can see why we wanted the latter this summer when he came on. But 1-11 we looked the better side. We just couldn't score.

He just seemed involved in most of their forward play to me, as it has looked on the highlights I've seen of him playing last couple of seasons. Only reason I've taken notice of Sunderland is that one of my workmates is a supporter (didn't come with me last night though) so I tend to look at them as well as Town more than other games. He was winning free kicks from our efforts to close him down second half. Everyone sees the game their own way though, fair enough. Agree that Simms looks a player, they have missed him while he has been injured so they will have been pleased to see him working his way back in last night.

Thought his performance before he scored was very much like when he played for us ie pretty anonymous. The goal obviously gave him a lift and he was more involved after that. Pretty much sums him up as a player and a person.

Roberts VERY one footed but also very good with that foot, caused us a few problems and Ellis Simms looked decent as well. Fair points. Overall they were nowt special at all but I possibly over-egged that point.

Always best to react in a juvenile way to these things.
Would I swap being him for me..
He has much more money than me, does not and hasnt had to work hard for a living. Probably had more options on the romantic front than me after he became a footballer. Is much younger than me.
Not a fucking chance look at him...😉

He never looked a danger at any time, unlike Roberts on the other side. Roberts was good in our half, plenty of opportunities to clatter him were missed. He looked very ordinary when chasing Jackson and not catching him??? Pritchard was pretty anonymous, which probably led to him being unmarked 6 yards out with us ball watching? There best player was the skinny black lad, ran miles, always available and didnt give it away once. I wish he had scored instead of that little shit.

His injury issues are clearly behind him. The poor ikkle Alex Pritchard we saw at Town would not have survived that first half rain. Surprised his knee stood up to the wind and rain in the first 45 minutes last night

There is a thread on their forum and they are absolutely slating him. Didn’t think he had a bad game personally. His set pieces were shite though. Can’t believe we paid what we paid for him.

He waited to be the last one off the pitch and we gave him a volley for a minute or two. He seemed to be revelling in it, different side of his personality to the kind of meek like of fight he showed at town.
All a bit unedifying but I joined in 😂 don’t think he liked “he’s gonna cry in a minute.”

Fuck the idiot he milked our club (not his fault as we gave him the contract) but that’s the state of modern footy. The way he’s acted for being paid very handsomely is disgusting. I wish Jack Russells got paid for the amount of running in circles he did as I’d be a millionaire too 🤣

I could at the time. He was a standout player in the championship for Norwich. The abuse he gets is unwarranted IMO. Not his fault we wanted to buy him and make him our highest paid player. Not his fault he had so many injury issues whilst he was here. I suppose he just represents the frustration of all that money blown on various players for almost no return. I never though he was a player who wasnt trying in any way..He never hid during games, like some others did. It just wasnt happening for him. Couldn't get any sort of run of games going to build up any form. Never fully fit. Wouldn't have thought he was bothered by the 'bants' he was getting last night at all. I was just waiting for him to score and rub the town fans noses in it...again,,, but thankfully didnt happen.

Agreed - don't quite understand the hate he gets from our fans, certainly no more so than the rest of our uninspiring PL signings. I can understand us not looking on him positively, but he was no worse than the rest of the crap we signed whilst up there. The only difference being he stuck around, but what are you supposed to do with a vastly overpriced and underperforming asset? He was hardly going to go abroad like the likes of Depoitre, Mounie, chuckle brothers etc

Apart from a harmless cyst keeping him out for longer than Gomes, at Evertons, broken and dislocated ankle.
