Good members of the Politics Sub Board. As you all know, this board is not for the faint hearted, and all ye who enter in here do so at your own risk!! Well its not quite that bad, but it does tend to generate heated debate on divided topics. Previous administrations consigned it to the quarantine area, your current three admins decided to bring it back as a trial to gauge the appetite for it. What we are looking for now is someone to take control of the board as moderator. It is suggested in the main rule set that those in the Politics board police themselves. The moderator has the ability to delete threads, merge them and undertake other admin tasks that help to keep the board running smoothly. It is proposed that the moderator would deal with any complaints that arise from this board, that would be communicated in the first instance through a DM.
If you feel that this is the task for you - do not reply to this thread. Send a PM to any of the current admins indicating your candidacy for the position.
Initially, this advert will run until Sunday 15th January, from where we will evaluate who has (hopefully) applied and whittle names down accordingly.

24/7 coverage is preferred but unlikely. Flexitime is available. Days off in lieu of extra hours worked. No bonus, no pension, Bank Holiday working optional. Thick skin required, rhino hide recommended. |

How about persuading Marcus out of exile? I'd love to see his unflinching support for free speech put to good effect dealing with all the lentil knitters, lettuce munchers & bleeding heart liberals (which I think amounted to pretty well everyone else) on here.

Does the proposed role have any "powers" other than being able to delete & merge threads? Genuine question, not being a knob.
Like dishing out cards if enough "proper" admins agree, or suggesting tweaks to the rules.

Issuing of cards would remain under the Admins remit, but the Moderator would be expected to try keep any issues under control. Using football parlance, to keep to game flowing and then have a quiet word where needed. Cards are not something we look to issue often, so having a Moderator in place should hopefully keep the heat on low.
Any reported posts would still come to us to handle, but in some more severe cases we may need the Moderators insight and opinion.
Merging of threads, post deletion etc should come under the Moderators powers for the Politics board. Re tweaks etc, then of course the Moderators opinion would be taken on board in relation to their area.

Sounds a bit like Scotland's Parliament, then. Great in theory, provides the illusion of devolved responsibility (very deliberately not using the word "power"), but ultimately rather impotent; and liable to be overruled or contradicted at any time. Other views are available.

The two threads that are a problem so far are the 'KKH' thread in the Talk of the Town section and the 'Off Topic' thread in the Forum Rules and Admin issues section. Looks to be a ProBoards issue. I’ll see if I can find out any info. Update: there are indeed some server issues at ProBoards affecting a number of sites hosted by them. I had the same issue but also the January transfer thread too. Yes, it appears to be the same for everybody. The admin team are on the case and it appears it is probably a Proboards server problem. All we can do is carry on with what still works and the rest should be back in due course. |

Afternoon all, So after reviewing the interest in the Moderator role, we are delighted to confirm Tinpot as your new Mod for the Politics board. You should see no real change from day to day on there but he will be actively posting and making sure old habits don’t slip back in. This step of appointing a Mod solidifies the Admin teams commitment to keep the Politics board open for use and discussion. |
