Good or bad, a new double episode will be ready likely prior to the American Thanksgiving holiday. You may be surprised at what’s covered, nothing is left out really- the whole point of these was extra transparency in the purchase of the club. And yes no one is naive, it’s not like there’s an expectation of anything other than a lot of virtual tomatoes being thrown at it. Which is fine, these were always about transparency, up to you on how to digest it. Take care A response more worthy than my post probably deserved. Thanks. Of course you deserve a response. Thank you for asking! Take care

Personally think they’re great. Thank you! The film crew has worked very hard on these, and hopefully (good/bad) you’re able to at least get transparency on the process. As always results on the pitch are the utmost priority, but the film series is completely independent in all their work. Take care

Personally, I’m happy not watching a bunch of blokes cock-swinging their way to buying the club (in just 10 days, don’t you know?) before presiding over the worst set of management decisions since Man City appointed Stuart Pearce and he played David James up front. Good or bad, a new double episode will be ready likely prior to the American Thanksgiving holiday. You may be surprised at what’s covered, nothing is left out really- the whole point of these was extra transparency in the purchase of the club. What happened there? He also said a Netflix deal was close to being signed yet Edwards said in the ATT panel recently that negotiations had only just begun?

Sacking Warnock and replacing him with Moore was like turkeys voting for Thanksgiving, so very apt.

Not sure which thread to post this but I didn’t want to create a new thread, so this will do.
I’ve just received an email from the secretary of the Sutton United Supporters Club to announce that the former players bar in the ground has been refurbished and renamed as Amber’s bar. They’ve added four TV’s showing multiple channels and look on it as a “Sports Bar”. They’re intending it be open five days a week and on match days.
Like most clubs, SU need to make money as much as they can. The ground is in a residential area, arguably the poorest part of Sutton and the local pub closed down eighteen months ago.
The club is well known for being a friendly and welcoming community club and hopefully this initiative will prove a success.
I’m sure Town could look to do something similar, whether in the ground or nearby. Canalside has been a big loss to supporters in my opinion. I think an American style bar with TV’s showing sports etc in somewhere like the former Rope Walk would prove popular.
If Sutton United can do it why can’t Town?

I think it was in the ATT meeting notes that they are looking at doing something like this. There was something about the lease for the Rope Walk coming up soon and they are also looking at some properties in the Town centre. I think by the sounds of things, anything related to the stadium is quite difficult for Town to do at the moment due to the ownership situation at KSDL. I think a bit of patience might be needed. not sure they can do a lot at the stadium until the Stadium ownership is sorted

How does Sutton compare to Huddersfield? As joburgjon has said, things are being looked at, but I'd imagine they should be doing some groundwork before they go all in with something that's too themed. Match days would likely be the bonanza days, but that's only ever going to be 20 odd days a year. It's probably me & how I live, but I don't get the community feel as a Town. There are plenty of villages/areas that do have a thriving community, but where the ground is & the town centre don't strike me as places where people would go out of their way to visit nowadays. Is Bradley Mills club still open as well? Surely residents would head there in the week, as it's likely to be a lot cheaper. Tough one though, as you say, this will be about building revenue streams o/s of game days & for 90% of clubs that's difficult, unless you have something quite niche that can survive.

It has, but it also makes total sense. Whether we like it or not, it's incredibly unprofessional by modern standards to have old folks doing their bowling or punters supping a pint whilst the team train and eat in an elite (used very lightly) sporting environment. I agree though, some sort of hub would be terrific. Gas Club would've been ideal but it's going to be knocked down in a few years.

It's probably me & how I live, but I don't get the community feel as a Town. Tough one though, as you say, this will be about building revenue streams o/s of game days & for 90% of clubs that's difficult, unless you have something quite niche that can survive. I’m not sure what context you’re getting at when asking how HT and SU compare? In many ways there’s no real comparison, but I’ll try and reply within the context of my initial post. Historically of course SU is a non-league club, albeit mainly at the higher levels and have a storied past. In many ways they’re still very much “non-league”. Outside of the players and manager/coaching staff I think they only have two paid employees, their directors are lifelong SU fans, not particularly wealthy, and the club still relies massively on a band of volunteers throughout the week and on match days. The chairman and CEO muck in selling tickets etc and mingle with the ordinary fans besides doing their directorial duties. The club has always had a good reputation for friendliness and integrity and it is hugely respected in football. I think they’ve actually sacked two managers in something like 50 years. Like Town they’re having to seek to increase revenue wherever they can. The ground is by far the poorest in the league (very open, poor sight lines apart from the old 1950’s grandstand) and they are obliged to double seating capacity by next season (provided they stay in L2). Ironically a new director has just joined from the USA, apparently as the figurehead for a group of four investors. The club does have three separate “entertainment” areas with bars in the grandstand that are used regularly for various community events. With the new “Ambers Bar” I’m guessing they’re looking to encourage more people to make an evening of it at the ground after Saturday games, thereby bringing in more money, all for the club, but they’ll also be hoping for a regular trickle of business throughout the week as well. I don’t buy it that the JSS is in any way particularly “isolated” and therefore wouldn’t attract customers. There’s plenty of parking at the ground and nearby, places like Starbucks and Greggs on the retail park at Leeds Road all seem to be doing OK and there’s all the weeknight and weekday shoppers to attract. Why wouldn’t something a bit different such as say an American-themed Sports Bar in such as the Rope Walk be successful, providing it is affordable and enjoyable?

Thanks Epsom, I was wondering what the demographic differences were between Sutton & Huddersfield. I obviously have this vision of 'leafy Sutton' & industrial Huddersfield.
As I said, it's partly to do with how I live. I wouldn't be going out of my way to visit a themed bar down by the JSS, but maybe younger families would be tempted by that, outside of match days?
I have a lot of time for our town, but I think it struggles because of it's size and the demographics of our area. It's not a particularly attractive centre, other than for a couple of exceptions.
There's always been a need to make things commercially viable, but it would be interesting to compare how much disappears from our local economies nowadays than it did 30-40 yrs ago, and that of course makes the death spiral of our larger towns like Huddersfield all the more inevitable as it doesn't recycle locally.

Ah, OK. Sutton is of course in Greater London, albeit the outermost borough, although many just think of it as being in Surrey. It’s a busy place, easy commute to London etc. The town centre isn’t the greatest but is reasonable enough and seems to be at least “holding its own”. There are very few, if any, closed shops, and there’s been a number of new “luxury flat” developments recently within walking distance of the station. It’s got its wealthier areas, big houses, £2M plus properties and it’s got its poorer areas too (the area around the ground isn’t the best but it’s not run down). Yes it’s leafy, but not compared to where we are! Everywhere in Surrey is leafy and they all have to be swept up!

If one is opened in the near future, then they need to get the marketing right and put the onus on fans / customers to back it and make it a success.

Busy day and night. Large range of quality shops, plenty of popular eateries and a busy cinema. They all complement each other and the area is thriving.

I appreciate there are pitfalls here and ultimately many are simply interested in the football on the pitch...........................but you cant blame the owners for wanting to increase revenues across more varied offerings - without them its always going to be a struggle for clubs such as ours unless you have a complete sugar daddy a la Abramovich or Walker in the halcyon days of Blackburn.

It’s on the fringe of a major city and decent road transport. Look at Meadowhall and the Trafford C as well, all served very easily, and they get the investment because they’re cities. This is always the thing that I think will hamper our town centre, the fact that our road links from the M62 simply don’t flow well enough. We’re heading back to the HDOne discussion again.

But it is closed weekends and closed when people finish work..... The times for Legends is abysmal. I like Legends. I go there often on match days. It’s absolutely nothing special inside but it’s good to be with other Town fans before the game. It’s not just Legends times that are abysmal. On midweek match evenings, the Costa next to the cinema closes at 6pm. Costa is a franchise, this branch has the flexibility to vary its closing time. You would think they would want to capitalise on match nights to boost their sales. But no. They just can’t be bothered.

But besides the “usual” away fans arriving on coaches there are actually a lot of them who drive here. These people probably don’t want alcohol - just somewhere civilised to have a drink after the journey. I don’t think this would happen in any other country apart from ours.
