Having read on the Town website earlier in the week that one had to buy a ticket for the friendly match on Saturday, and having seen some confusion on DATM recently, I resolved to ring the club for a quick answer as I live quite far away and need to know before Saturday.
I consistently rang the main number on the website for an hour - no reply.
I rang the ticket office :
either "your call is important to us etc etc , you are number 1/2/3 in the queue " and then as soon as someone answered the line went dead, or "currently unable to take your call".
Eventually got through to the main number again and someone answered. I asked if I had to buy a ticket before hand ? "Yes" "So I can't pay at the gate ?" "I don't know". "How can I find out?" "I'll put you through to the ticket office". "But it cuts off" "I'll put you through and you can try again"
Ticket office: "Your call is important to us etc etc" .... then "currently unable to take your call".
I gave up.
So I still don't know if I can pay at the gate or have to queue at a window to buy a ticket to show at the gate.
Very frustrating.
Admin - if you wish to put this post in with another thread , please feel free.
I just wanted to highlight my annoyance.

This is one of the things I hope Mr Nagle and co will sort out.
While staff are (USUALLY) friendly, helpful and brilliant once you manage to get through, the customer services at Town are amateurish at best.
Yank-style PR is already here so hopefully Yank-style Customer Service will come too.
As I said though, the staff themselves are generally blameless in my experience.

Town put a tweet out yesterday to say:
Don't waste your time queuing at the Ticket Office on Saturday afternoon, beat the rush by buying your ticket today!
Also, seeing that we haven't been able to buy at the gate for the last 4 seasons, I think it's fairly obvious that you have to get a ticket, either online or at the Ticket Office.

I totally agree Mosher - when I usually get through to the ticket office the staff there are excellent. I'm not quite as impressed with those who answer the main number advertised on the official site. It was certainly no complaint about the people in the ticket office - when you can get through.

I drove up on Tuesday for a few days up here and called at the ticket office to buy for Saturday. Given all the trouble youāve experienced trying to speak to the ticket office Iād make an official complaint about it. Itās not acceptable and the club will lose business because of it, so the club needs to know thereās a problem.
Iām certain that youāll be able to buy on the day from the ticket office. To be honest I donāt see why you shouldnāt be able to pay at the gate, cash or card.

Also, what's the issue with either buying online or queuing up on Saturday (if you don't want to pay the booking fee)?

No issue at all, my friend rooo - but I was commenting on the difficulty I had getting an answer, or even any contact, from contacting the club. Unlike you I was not aware that you haven't been able to pay at the gate for a friendly match for a number of years... I will know better next time.

But it's getting to the point that those of us who think like that are being increasingly marginilised. Same with EVERYTHING seemingly going digital only. Every time I phone the bank they ask if I want to do online banking**; they seemed surprised that I actually LIKE speaking to actual people to get important shit sorted. I've lost count of the amount of times I've tried doing something using an automated service (phone or t'interweb) and they haven't had the option for what I'm seeking aid on. ** I have set up online banking, but every time I log in it asks for a code. I enter the code and it just cycles back to the homepage. Try clicking on any of the services from the homepage and it sends me another code, which I enter. Sends me back to the homepage. I've told all this to Yorkshire Bank (Virgin now) and they couldn't help, even when I went through the process while they were walking me through it on the phone. Their IT assistant couldn't help either.

The days of actually speaking to someone are nearly finished but Iām glad, selfishly š but I donāt really like talking to people out of my circle. Itās so much easier sorting things online. I had an issue with trains to and back from London last weekend, sorted it in 10 minutes on Twitter, would have been at least an hour on the phone. Online banking is easy, but only easy when you are fully set up and have used it enough to navigate it. I appreciate you have an issue with the codes and IT staff, sounds a poor do mate and hope they can get it up and running for you. IT can be a nightmare when itās not straight forward.

Also, what's the issue with either buying online or queuing up on Saturday (if you don't want to pay the booking fee)? Friendlies have always been pay on the gate. This would be the 1st time you haven't been able to. Also rang the office, said number invalid. I then called the club and DTS put me through to the ticket office. Then it said 'emergency incident we can't take your call'.

Iāve bought match tickets a few times last season and found the online purchasing method a faff; got to paying and it booted me out. Rang the ticket office and had the same experience as those above me, as in āyour call is importantā¦.youāre 104 in the queueā and eventually get cut off, even when Iāve got through to the ticket office. The staff once through are helpful and in person theyāre great too but the whole process needs a review.
I will be there on Saturday with my ticket, no cash, and probably alongside maybe 1,500 others?
