Remember a one nil win at Watford and singing Brian Horton’s barmy army the entire second half. Crazy days. Strangely that chant is my main memory of that time as well. My Mum took me and a couple of friends into the hospitality seats for a birthday, must have been 12 or 13. (Sir Stanley Matthews was the guest speaker and I got his autograph!) Think it was against Forest and we may have lost 1-0. But I remember being amazed by the “Brian Horton’s barmy army” chant going for what seemed like the entire game. Sure it wasn’t long before he left as well. Different times!

More or less all second half we sang Brian Horton's barmy army and nowt else. Oldham were a very good side back then.

Some excellent singing at Southend right at the end of 96/97 season. 2-1 victory.

Good read that mate. I loved that 95/96 season and must be in a small minority who liked both Horton and Lee Makel! Beating Wolves, Leicester, Palace, Norwich etc at home was great in that first season.

His time at Town has always interested me thanks to watching the "Up In The First" VHS as a kid.

Remember thinking it was a bit of a coup when we got him, as he'd been a top flight manager not long before with Man City. A real shame he didn't get to build the dream forward line of Stewart and Boothy!

Can you imagine Stewart and Boothy up top, with a fit and firing Thornley and Dolly putting balls in? We’d have crushed a fair few teams if it wasn’t for those spells of injuries.

He was a bit smug, I remember being at a comedy night and he was just a bit arrogant. I went to the Southend match away we won 2_1 , but stood next to the monotonous drummer with my wife and it was for us not a favourite memory as we both had earache from this cacophony!
