Makes the decision to put him in the leadership team even more baffling. I can't quite believe that the guy who played against Morecambe is the same guy who played against Walsall and Northampton. The differences in performances are just crazy. I can. He struggles hugely with confidence. Got the early goal against Morecambe, then went at their full-back a couple of times. Confidence flowing. At Bolton, he’s in a side that’s dominating the game. Elsewhere, however, he’s found himself making mistakes and it hits him harder than other players for whatever reason. Technically, he’s good enough for the division above. He’s a lovely striker of a football and going forward creates issues. Physically he has a lot going for him too. He’s quick and strong. But mentally he’s so inconsistent. And that’s his downfall. He can’t brush a mistakes off, he lingers on his errors. He withdraws into himself. These two posts are - I believe - linked. Putting someone who struggles with confidence into a role of responsibility is a tried and tested method of giving them confidence. Letting Jaheim know they believe in him is presumably seen as a way of getting the best out of him. I would caveat that by saying that although that often works, it doesn't always, and it's not a magic bullet. There's also the question of interpersonal relationships with other players. If he's the go-to guy that a lot of the squad look up to from a personality perspective then that also makes him a good choice. When he's good, he's good enough for the division above. When he's bad, I'm not sure he's good enough for the division below. I think it's "just" a matter of working on adjusting his mindset. But, that is a big "just". It'll take time, and might not happen.

This is going to sound harsh - but hes in the wrong profession then. Football is a high octane industry where the trappings are huge for the successful.....but the criticism huge for those that fail. Yesterday he was beyond shocking - and supporters have had enough. They want to see players using their attributes to help the team - not hiding timidly and making the same basic errors. At times he can look decent - tall, quick, flashes of skill etc but almost every time he gets a chance to claim the shirt longer term like yday he flunks badly. Has to improve massively if hes going to have a career in the game at this level....as it stands hes a bit part who will sink into lower leagues with no consistency to fall back on sadly. For the most part I agree with you. I'd just caveat that by saying that a career in lower leagues football is not to be sniffed at. Not an indication that he's in the wrong profession, so much as he may find himself in the same profession but at a lower level. He has a lot of the attributes needed to succeed in the Championship, but not all of them. You could doubtless say the same about a lot of players plying their trade in Lg2.

You're not wrong there. It's not harsh at all - reality is what it is. I just hope someone at the club has diagnosed the issue and is doing something about it. A few months out of the team, seeing a sports psychologist, rebuilding confidence and putting it on a stable footing could be the making of him if he then comes back and has a good second half of the season. It really is make or break for him at this stage, though.

Fair point - i think the frustration with him specifically is he continues to make the same mistakes. Others get cut slack (like helik yday) when theyve been decent consistently. Sadly Jaheim hasnt done that yet.

He wasn't terrible today just had a bad game. For me it was not running past a man or making space I didn't like. Wasn't worse player on the pitch didn't deserve any boo's. Hogg was worse playing negative football at 3-0 down

Was embarrassed when he got booed off. Yes he was pretty awful, but you don't boo off a player in blue and white.
His lack of movement off the ball is astounding. He's got Lonwijk and Duff screaming at him to run down the line and he just stands there marked by 2 players.

Didn't deserve to be singled out at all (state of the midfield and that pathetic og), and I would only boo a player I thought was being disrespectful to the club, but we're all different, so I ain't gonna call out some fans for doing this......especially when I left just before we scored, which also doesn't help.

He had a poor game yesterday. He seemed to panic when it came to crossing the ball and invariably hit it into the defender's legs. But... the booing and jeering is atrocious. It's no excuse saying, "Yer, but the crowd were frustrated". Is it just Town that have always had this problem? Not only does it destroy confidence in a young player, I also think it affects the rest of the team.
There's always one player who gets undue criticism, a recent example being Ben Jackson who looked petrified every time he got the ball - a young player weighed down by crowd displeasure. Then there's Ben Hamer who's career was destroyed whilst at Town by a faction of "fans". Dave Cowling and others... it's a long list.
Headley also seems frightened when he plays. For his own sake we need cover at left wingback in January and send him out on a loan to get his confidence back. In the meantime, it might be best to just play him when we're away.

If it's a confidence thing then that going to destroy him. I Knew he was terrible, I've never rated him but I'd never insult or boo him. Some absolute morons in our crowd.

If he lacks confidence the last thing he needs is a bollocking from the captain, especially when it was about movement off the ball.

Is he really supposed to keep quiet in case he harms his confidence? Lots on here complain about lack of leadership and vocals on the pitch, Hogg is the only one offering this.

Hogg’s a nightmare for young players. Bollox them for the slightest mistake, but then makes loads every game himself. Bollox them for not moving into space, but the doesn’t do enough himself. Bollox them for not passing quickly enough, but then constantly slows down play himself.
The one constant in our slump from Premium League to League 1. General my arse
Headley needs an arm round him and confidence pumped into him

Some of our players are unhelpable they really do think they are the dogs bollocks when they are not. Headley is one who smacks of this , he is slack and careless , yet does not seem to give a flying f about it. The lack of care is plain and clear to see, helik own goal was the prime example of that yesterday alongside large parts of play was just careless .

Now its not all down to him, but eventually somebody might just realize that his time's up and before anybody says every manager keeps picking him, well yes they do but only Wagner and Corberan have lasted more than a season in the job. Its time to move on from Hogg and he should only be a bit part player from now on. Hodge and Kane need to start on Tuesday with one from Wiles, Evans or Iorpenda.

How about encouraging him… you don’t have to bollock him to get results. How about coaching him during the game which is what true professional’s do. If it’s the tenth time during the game then sure, bollock him, but when it’s early on and we haven’t found a rhythm, Hogg is best giving direction. You want to see a real leader, I was watching Celtic in the Champions League the other day, Celtic had clearly got too narrow and their captain MacGregor in the middle of play while he had the ball gestured to his team to widen out. The players did it immediately and they played better for it. That’s the type of leadership we need when we aren’t playing at our best.

Good leadership requires the ability to read what makes different people tick in different circumstances.

Bad game yesterday. Took the wrong option at every opportunity but it was just one game.
He was very good the week before and i think he’s a really good player with loads of potential. Not only a massive opportunity for Town blown yesterday but for himself. He should have been making the starting spot his own while Miller was out.
