41 years ago today. We've played each other a few times since that league cup game, won a few, lost a few but this one was special. About 8,000 crammed into that Lowfields rd terrace that evening. Has anyone got a better video clip of it than this one?

I was 12 and remember the time fondly... Could this game have been on Harry Carpenter’s ‘Sportsnight’ programme - I seem to remember some English League Cup games on that in amongst a lot of boxing matches -
There was a CB craze here on The Whisky Isle And ma handle was ‘Smokey Joe’ as I’d started smoking with the Townies from Bowmore and Port Ellen to be one of ‘The Lads’ (Thankfully from a financial point of view I stopped at Christmas time) !
I remember (well sort of ) ma first school disco (The Halloween Dance) as it was called - That way when you start getting ‘public’ hair, soaking wet armpits, so that was the end of grey T-shirts, Getting The Sure Men’s deodorant on for the disco, all that great music, I don’t wanna dance by Eddie Grant, Do yo really wanna hurt me by Culture Club , Chicago with Hard to say I’m sorry, Rio by Duran Duran, and ma first ever snog with Janice at that dance to Heartbreaker by Dionne Warwick !
Oh Jeez - Under age smoking, Under age drinking (I remember Eleanor and Fiona from across the road getting pished with us at that dance and spewing everywhere on the bus home and lifting ma trainers up and down on the back seat as their puke shot towards me in the gangway goin up Uiskintuie and Braeside Hills !
Oh Bloody Hell - These were some crazy days and it’s hard to believe that famous win was 41 bloody years ago...
Time must fly by far quicker as you get older !

Missed out on that whole era (born in 1980) but it must have been an amazing time to watch Town. Never saw either Mark Lillis or Mally Brown play in a live game but they look like such classy players in all the grainy clips I've seen.

I believe those scenes in the Town end are what the kids these days call "limbs" 😁

To understand the exuberance of that night (a League Cup second round game ffs) you have to take it in the context the match was played. It was the first meeting for a decade, during which Town had gone from the first to the bottom tier. Buxton had turned the club around and we felt we were on the rise again. Leeds glory days had ended they had been relegated. It was huge for us.

Yes, me and the wife got in free too, they weren’t expecting us to take so many and had to open the exit gates on police orders and just let loads in for nowt.still one of the best matches in memory.

I remember it as if it was only yesterday, brilliant night and just one of many great times following Town. i am sure it was the same game, my mate tripped over the curb and broke his arm when a massive brawl broke out near the station, he was holding his arm all the way home on the train and then decided to go up to the hospital when we got back to Huddersfield

A few of us travelled over from RAF Finningley and stopped off for a celebratory pint in a pub near Wakefield. Propping up the bar there was none other than David Bairstow (RIP). Made for a great night out.

Even better when you got in for nothing The few sections of Lowfields terrace they opened were seriously packed in parts. Fans were climbing and seeing hauled up into the seats behind.

Great night that. One of the best I ever had as a Town fan. Lots of memories of it and it was the first time I had been to Elland Road. Saw the 2-1 victory during our relegation season from the old First Division when we managed to beat Derby who became champions and Leeds who finished second and won the FA cup.
Remember holding onto a blue crash barrier for luck after we scored and cheering like mad after the realisation that Cowling had scored. But really we won with a bit to spare. Leeds had knocked out Keegan’s Newcastle in the previous round and were expected to go through easily yet we equalled and then surpassed them in quality. In the end it was no surprise we won. Buxton knew how to get a tune out of his players and at the end of the game we cheered like mad as it represented the lancing of a Leeds boil that had existed since the late 60 s of them being dominant in England and for us in Yorkshire.
Not to be outdone we beat them again I think on Boxing Day in 1983 when even more Town fans turned up at Elland Road. We had the whole of the away side that day and filled it. We were stood close to the Gelderd End laughing as Russel and Lillie wrapped up the points.

DC scored some very important goals for us and he got some unfair stick from some fans because he wasn't a good tackler of a ball. The days when we took thousands to Elland Road and the Leeds fans, i will give them one thing. Cr@p
