I'm speaking to former Town player Graham Cooper in the near future for Town's matchday programme.
Cooper played for the club between 1984 and 1988, scoring 13 goals in 87 games for the club.
Does anyone have any memories of him?
Or anything they want to ask him?

Like all players of that era, what id always ask them is to tell any good stories about Malcolm MacDonald! Spoke to Paul France once and he had some good ones!

didn't Supermac lay a chod on the chairman's desk? Or did I dream that up (should probably seek help if I did dream it!)

I have two memories of Graham Cooper (aka "the hooded man" - as my pal calls him):
We played at Luton in the FA Cup (85?) and at 0-0 he hit the post. This game lives in the memory primarily for standing on the open end and having masonry chucked at us.
The other memory was seeing him at York Races and he was absolutely steaming.
Neither memory of much use for a programme article.

Wow I actually thought that was a promo shot from Michael Praed at first (quick) glance.
One of my favourite shows as a kid.

I would imagine his most memorable game was scoring both against Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle at Leeds Road with 16,000 Geordies baying. Useful player who didn’t quite achieve his full potential (not a criticism at all - all sorts of factors can get in the way).

Mum wouldn't let me have my hair like Friar Tuck, which I thought was terribly unfair given that my Dad had his like that. Also discovered Clannad via that programme.

There was one game where they propped him up in the dugout, and another where they went in at half-time expecting a bollocking but it didn't come as Supermac hadn't seen the first half, he was asleep on the dressing room floor.

Yeah, that was first thing I saw Ray Winstone in, bit different from Scum, which was the NEXT thing I saw him in I liked the magical assassin type dude (Nasir?) with the double knives and sneaky ways and Judi Trott (Marion) was one of my first boyhood crushes.

I remember he had a mullet haircut, but he was an OK winger in a very poor team. I went skiing with a group and 1 of them was a dead ringer for him, ask was it him skiing in Austria in 1984 with Nat holidays? When I asked him at the time he said who the hell is Graham Cooper!

I recall someone posting on here, well on old Geoff era datm, that Supermac developed a drink problem because he was often in a lot of pain due to injuries he was carrying from his playing days. And after some proper treatment for his injuries he managed to get off the booze.

And after some proper treatment for his injuries he managed to get off the booze. Yeah believe that was the case. His knees were buggered when he retired. He was really bow-legged when you see old photos from his playing days so that might have been the root cause. Drink was how he coped with the pain.

Another that sticks in my mind was April 1987 and another relegation scrap, we beat Barnsley 1-0 at Oakwell and i think he scored the winner, after the match he was walking through the car park where the coaches parked and all the town fans were pappping their car horns at him.

Supermac is on the list of people to contact, but I imagine he'll tell me to fuck off! Him, Robert Wilson and Dale Tempest did one with a Fulham fan recently on You Tube but let's face it the Supermac period at Town was absolutely nothing short of an unmitigated disaster, there's nothing good about this period at all. At least at Fulham he won promotion and turned them in to a decent 2nd Division side.

It would be boring if we only heard from those that played in or managed successful teams.

Remember him getting the clincher in a 3-1 win at Blackburn. Late 1984? Tap in, right in front of the Town fans

Remember him getting the clincher in a 3-1 win at Blackburn. Late 1984? Tap in, right in front of the Town fans I won a golden ticket to the Crystal Palace game in 2013 and Dale Tempest just happened to sit at our table. I mentioned the Blackburn game to him and he remembered the three scorers straight away - himself, Dave Cowling and Graham Cooper. www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/story-behind-story-anniversary-huddersfield-12380891I'd forgotten that Paul Jones got injured at that game and, as so often happened with Town when we lost a key player, our form dipped - others include Chris Marsden, Barry Horne, Marcus (in 1996-97) and the bald Prince in 2018-19. A friend of mine who knew Tempest through horse racing said that Dale had such a great memory that he would place someone straight away and say where he'd last met them. I haven't been able to test that yet. Sorry that this has very little to do with Graham Cooper. A local footballer I worked with played against Coops when he was at Emley (?) and he said you just don't appreciate how fast these guys are.

I think unsuccessful periods of Town's history are even more fascinating pickings than those rare promotion seasons in many ways.

They are, and that's simply because we haven't heard interviews from the people involved. I'm hoping to change that. If you've played for us, managed us or coached us, I want to interview you. The only exception is some Spaniard manager we had a couple of years ago.

I watched that goal go in from the home end as my mate’s family were all Barnsley fans. Killed me not being able to celebrate it. Sure he only scored one of the two goals against the Toon as t’other was an own goal I think. My sister used to fancy him due to the Robin Hood thing and I am sure he enjoyed himself in Johnny’s. I think that Blackburn away game is on YouTube somewhere.

Wouldnt that be interesting purely for the fact of him making a competitive side who finished 3rd out of one who finished 20th the season before, thats if you could understand what he was saying mind.
