They are, and that's simply because we haven't heard interviews from the people involved. I'm hoping to change that. If you've played for us, managed us or coached us, I want to interview you. The only exception is some Spaniard manager we had a couple of years ago. Wouldnt that be interesting purely for the fact of him making a competitive side who finished 3rd out of one who finished 20th the season before, thats if you could understand what he was saying mind. It would be about as interesting as looking at an empty ashtray.

Another that sticks in my mind was April 1987 and another relegation scrap, we beat Barnsley 1-0 at Oakwell and i think he scored the winner, after the mnatch he was walking through the car park where the coaches parked and all the town fans were pappping their car horns at him. I watched that goal go in from the home end as my mate’s family were all Barnsley fans. Killed me not being able to celebrate it. Sure he only scored one of the two goals against the Toon as t’other was an own goal I think. My sister used to fancy him due to the Robin Hood thing and I am sure he enjoyed himself in Johnny’s. I think that Blackburn away game is on YouTube somewhere. John Trewick got the OG, wasn't it a back header as his keeper came out 🤔

I'm speaking to former Town player Graham Cooper in the near future for Town's matchday programme. Cooper played for the club between 1984 and 1988, scoring 13 goals in 87 games for the club. Does anyone have any memories of him? Or anything they want to ask him?Three questions from me (Westie) for him please htafcokay... 1) - Did he play in The 10-1 defeat at Manchester City ? 2) - What does he think the score will be in The FA Cup match in January ? 3) - Does he have a favourite team in Bonnie Scotland !

Mind might be playing tricks as - A) I was 12 and B) I could've been traumatised by being weed on by a pissed up Geordie queueing to get in the Terrace side.

Remember him getting the clincher in a 3-1 win at Blackburn. Late 1984? Tap in, right in front of the Town fans I won a golden ticket to the Crystal Palace game in 2013 and Dale Tempest just happened to sit at our table. I mentioned the Blackburn game to him and he remembered the three scorers straight away - himself, Dave Cowling and Graham Cooper. www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/story-behind-story-anniversary-huddersfield-12380891I'd forgotten that Paul Jones got injured at that game and, as so often happened with Town when we lost a key player, our form dipped - others include Chris Marsden, Barry Horne, Marcus (in 1996-97) and the bald Prince in 2018-19. A friend of mine who knew Tempest through horse racing said that Dale had such a great memory that he would place someone straight away and say where he'd last met them. I haven't been able to test that yet. Sorry that this has very little to do with Graham Cooper. A local footballer I worked with played against Coops when he was at Emley (?) and he said you just don't appreciate how fast these guys are. This. I recall hearing someone (I forget who) saying that footballers aren't slow. None of them are. Some are quicker than others but even the slowest footballers are so much quicker than you are. By the time you even realise that you've got to do something they've already nipped in front of you and gone. Fun Fact. I recall as a kid, playing football with a few mates. One of them had a friend of the family visiting who was on the youth team at Rochdale. I remember thinking at the time he was useless. Never occurred to me until years afterwards that maybe he wasn't actually trying against a bunch of 10 year olds...

Me & some mates were in Johnny’s (I think) one night & Cooper was a bit pissed up & being a bit flash surrounded by some young ladies. One of my mates went up to him & said I know your face mate but I can’t place you... he kept saying don’t tell me I’ll get there, Cooper was quite ok with it for a bit but eventually was starting, quite naturally, to get a bit pissed off when my mate said I’ve got I now, you drive the 37 bus & walked off.
My question to him would be was he often mistaken for a bus driver?

Interesting comparing what would then have been mainly 3rd division footballers acting like Beckham in Johnny's. I seem to recall Lillis had similar form for being a bit flash? If memory serves, wasn't Copper's finest hour in that game v Newcastle?

What I would say is the upper body strength is the biggest difference. You couldn’t push him off the ball. Wilson was the same. Can’t think of his first name. Ex Fulham

He scored a stunning goal at the Cowshed end against Shrewsbury, unfortunately we lost 5-1.

Didn’t get chance to read this on Saturday and only just caught up - Graham’s humility shines through a great article in a cracking series (the programme is pretty good these days, in no small part to Lee and HTSA (and Roger, of course!).

Does anyone have any memories of him? Or anything they want to ask him? I was mates with Cooey at Newsome School. He played 6 and I played most positions across the front 5 (remember those days!!). Never would have picked him out as the one to go on and play professionally. Some good players in that team. Use to bump into him regularly in Johnny's when he played for Town. Hadn't changed at all. A good lad.

Not actually a bad player for Town, considering he played in struggling teams mainly. Scored a couple of big goals for Town as well

I have two memories of Graham Cooper (aka "the hooded man" - as my pal calls him): We played at Luton in the FA Cup (85?) and at 0-0 he hit the post. This game lives in the memory primarily for standing on the open end and having masonry chucked at us. The other memory was seeing him at York Races and he was absolutely steaming. Neither memory of much use for a programme article. He says he still remembers missing against Luton, and doesn't need reminding! We spoke about that and also a miss against City in the Cup, although it didn't make the final draft of the interview.

Remember talking to Graham in the Johnnys queue which was unusual for me because I spent all my nightclub time at the Coach House. He had recently scored the goal against the Geordies and I remember him saying that he was told not to celebrate if he scored to prevent a riot! He came across as a decent down to earth guy.

That’s a brilliant read htafcokay and Thank You for putting it up for reading...
Brings back some nice player and music memories of decades ago so it does -
Great as well that a local lad that was such a passionate supporter of HTAFC got to truly fulfill his dream as well...
Think he’d be good to blether to over a Lager n’ Lime and a Double Whisky ! 🍺 🥃 👍

Worst Town shirt of all time, the one hes wearing in that photo. It really is all over the place!
Remember thinking we'd unearthed a real superstar when he first broke through. Even looked like a superstar with his long hair. he was brilliant in that Newcastle match ( was that the one that was supposed to be Keegan's last game and 15000 geordies showed up for it,.. then Keegan didnt play?)
