Really good write up this, I hope our scouting team are taking a similar approach and looking at those abroad. We might not get bundesliga 1 players in Austria etc but there’s got to be plenty of hidden gems out there.

We never seem to buy anyone from Austria & Belgium there must be better players there than what we already have for sure even some hidden gems to even first team 11 players .

Our old DoF was very active with scouting in The Netherlands (hence Nakayama) because he'd heard that under the big 3 clubs, the wages were less than the average Championship wage, so I presume the same counts for Belgium and Austria hence me throwing some wild names in there. Hopefully the new owner isn't risk averse to spending money on foreign players like the last one was towards the end so we don't miss out on gems like Zian Flemming next time...

Good writeup. Next to nil chance on Surridge though.
Short explanation: MLS rules are really stupid/awful for loans outbound.
Longer explanation: If loaned his roster spot can't be replaced in Nashville's 20 man senior roster. He's making $2.9M per year and had a ~$6.5M transfer fee which is spread over the 3.5 year contract he received. That gets factored into his contract for salary contributions. So for salary purposes that's a $5M hit per year. He's on one of 3 uncapped spots for Nashville. The only likely reasons to loan would be with option to sell (he hasn't looked that good) or to split his salary hit (the $5M) in half to get into one of the capped spots so that Nashville could sign another high salary player. Can't imagine we'd pay near what he's on now or that transfer fee. If Nashville aren't looking to get rid then splitting that salary hit in half is still about $500k too much to move him into a capped roster spot. If looking at MLS my top forward option would be Jeremy Ebobisse from San Jose. The other option would probably be Brandon Vazquez from Cincinnati but I think he'll likely go for more than he's worth. Dark horse option. Duncan McGuire. Orlando player who came from the college ranks (sounds like Dike but play style very different). Blackburn tried to get him in on loan but were rejected. On very low money but would require a decent fee.

Hopefully mate the foreign countries surely wont be on a par on wages compared to the championship, we must be able to afford them from the likes of Austria & Belgium and must be some good hidden gems thats better than what we currently have, and like you say Netherlands have a good crop of players under the top 3 big clubs, I reckon we will see more foreign players coming to the club under Nagle and his men compared to us signing English players but then thrown in with some premier league loans

good, detailed piece. Sorry you had a shite 2023. Can't believe Kevin Phillips has been overlooked, though.

It shows how tough it's going to be for Town in this window - virtually every Championship club wants a new striker in this window.

Great piece! I really like the profile of Miles Leaburn, loads of sell on potential further down the line. Given how raw he is I think it would have to be him and one more.

Great read as ever.
Love the pod. The previews and the post match shows really help me feel closer to the team as someone who doesnt live in Yorkshire.

This is a great piece Matt - on a separate note, thank you to you and all those that contribute to the pod; as Bentley316 says it is much appreciated, especially by those of us who no longer reside in Yorkshire.

I echo this 100%. Nothing really been made of the bombshell that it may be last season of the pod. Hoping Town sort out themselves and it becomes good to pod about them again. Get some of the lads back with the buzz to keep doing it

I'd second that for those of us that no longer live in Yorkshire. Love the podcast, saddened that it's ending. TTCMatt , kosi pozza and the others I've missed - thank you (and I hope you change your mind about ending it!).

Pure guesswork on my part, and I may be adding two and two together and getting 5, but I suspect it has something to do with the situation with Steven Chicken and David Hartrick.
Having a good, free podcast still available when they are trying to get a paid version of the ground might stifle the growth of "We Are Terriers".
(Although if messrs Chicken and Hartrick are reading, I love the podcast but the name is terrible)

I'd heard nowt prior to the podcast that I linked to higher up this page. Either way, sorry to see it end.

Yep, me too (I was on it once - it is very difficult to do (I was shit) and I can see how it could become tedious).
