I’m thinking about Ashton-u-Lyne. Easy drive & easy parking then tram straight to the ground.

Heard there’s not many pubs near the ground so drinking in city centre might be best option for those getting train
I was thinking Ashton-Under-Lyne tram too as will be driving Holmfirth way and only takes 20 mins direct to the Etihad, but heard the tram back after the game is a bit of a nightmare.
From what I’ve read on the Man City forum there’s massive queues (which away fans are at the back of as have to walk long way round), then packed in like sardines and takes forever as gets stuck in all car traffic. So thinking parking a mile or 2 from ground then walking might be better option, fook knows 🤔

For those that can walk at normal speed, literally hundreds of bars and pubs in Manchester and a 25 minute walk to ground. Spoilt for choice. And the walk will do you good 😀

Due to bad planning - and the fact I never imagined it'd sell out - I'm not going; but I might go to the pub. Might even watch it in the pub.
If you're able-bodied, drink in town and walk it. Bugger all near the ground, the ground itself is funny about away fans and it's Manchester city centre, which is mint. Can't advise on parking, mind - only that there's the arena and near the Co-op headquarters.
Only issue is likely to be what's open - most places will be midday at the earliest. Gone midday, Sinclairs Oyster Bar in Cathedral Square is popular with away fans - the Real Madrid fans took it over in style recently. Christ, they were loud. Technically colours aren't allowed, but depends when and who's playing.
The Crown & Kettle might be a decent shout, good ales and vaguely on the way. Nearby Fringe is great, but probably won't be open.
Before midday you might need to resort to Spoons. Best is in St Peter's Square (by the tram stop, if you're taking it), most popular pre-match is in the Printworks and the closest - but grottiest - is near Picc Station. Best pub by the station is Piccadilly Tap, cracking beers.
Good luck finding Landlord or Boltmaker anywhere, though.

The problem with KO time is that most of proper pubs in Manchester won’t be open. So we are having a few near Piccadilly, there is a pub opposite taxi areas at Piccadilly and then after game back to City Centre for late afternoon. To be honest if you go down any side street in Manchester you will find a decent pub. Shakespeare springs to mind, I think it’s near Arndale Centre.

The pub near Piccadilly might be called The Bulls Head.

There’s a very good pub (reasonably priced) as Manchester Shouldhill bus station called The Hare and Hounds that I always enjoy a good pint in after a 4 and a half hour bus journey from Scotland - Two very welcoming sisters in Leanne and Diane in there !
It’s used by both friendly fans of both City and United and they accept me in there in Huddy Town attire (not sure how they’d be on a match day between both teams though and it isn’t the biggest pub in Manchester either) and it’s a five minute tram line away from Pickadilly -
One to avoid (unless you are fairly wealthy) is The Balcony Bar at Pickadilly Train Station which is a bloody rip off big time...
I’m not sure how they deal with football fans as it’s always a Friday night that I’ve been in it and they don’t seem like a bar that’d want fans mixing although I could be wrong on that one...
Anyway to those all going - Happy Manchester Drinking Day 🥃 🍺 - Enjoy Enjoy and Safe journey there and back to Huddersfield ! 👍

Shakespeare Grey Horse Circus Tavern (tiny but ace) Peveril of the Peak Briton’s Protection
I’d sack the match off and visit a selection or all of the above

We’re heading into Piccadilly. Anyone know the best pubs to go? Bull's Head, Piccadilly Tap. Left down Portland Street to the Circus or the Old Monkey, down Piccadilly way and turn right for the Northern Quarter, or down Market Street and turn right for a bunch of pubs around Cathedral Square / by Harvey Nics. The new Tap at Victoria Station is great, too.

I’m thinking about Ashton-u-Lyne. Easy drive & easy parking then tram straight to the ground. I work in Ashton Under Lyne and wouldn't recommend any pubs in the centre. Sycamore near the park is OK, as is Snipe close-ish to the Audenshaw tram stop. The rest are best avoided in my opinion!

Yes I worked there a bit myself in the past which taught me to generally give the place a wide berth. The problem I have is lack of mobility so it’s where I can get to & from before my scooter battery decides it’s had enough for the day 😂😂 So, much as it’s normally against my religion to frequent crap pubs, it looks like a morning in Spoons.

Its not far from Victoria station and it was a good pub and a pub with a strange name just at the bottom of Oldham road called The Land Of Cakes but i don't know if that is still open. Piccadilly was always dodgey when City were at home and i have no reason to think that will have changed.

Having an early start, brekkie & a few beers…where are people heading? Train to Piccadilly. Loads of pubs for food and beverages in the Northern Quarter. 20 minute walk to the ground. Very few decent pubs near the ground. My city mates drink in Mary Dee's. Match day activities and bars around the actual stadium, but the beer ain't great. Service is shocking inside the ground.

Was the old garrison town for Manchester. Wouldn't bother with the tram as you're OK getting there but shafted on the way home. Get the train from Town. Stop off at the railway in Greenfield and Stalybridge buffet bar if you're not going straight to Manchester

Not many decent pubs nearby though. Personally, I'd train it. And make a day of it. I'm a Huddersfield lad, live in Saddleworth, work in Manchester. At this moment Manchester has a hell of a lot going on and there are so many decent pubs and bars.

Stop off at the railway in Greenfield and Stalybridge buffet bar if you're not going straight to Manchester Take it drbaldrick that MRI is shorthand for Manchester Royal Infrimary... If so that place seems pure nuts - Ambulances in and out every few minutes, FOUR Police cars seemed constantly there as well ⚠️ (at least there were no fire engines) ! The reason I know is that ma niece literally begged me to chaperone her and her best pal Becca to Manchester to see some bird called Hayley Carookie (or it sounded like that) playing at a concert hall near there. The hotel we had was just round the corner and we heard plenty sirens for sure ! They were only fifteen and the only way they got to travel was if I agreed to go with them, so there I was - The Whisky Isle to Connel, then to Glasgow, then Manchester, check in, walk them to Hayley Carookie, head up to Pickadilly to meet Huddersfield Town supporting friends Sue and Robert from Honely for a few beers and drams for a few hours and then back down to meet the teeny boppers at the post box near their concert hall. Then it was a late night munchi, bed and the next day, a few beers in The Hounds and Hares in Shouldhill before the bus back to Glasgow with The Diet Irn Brewery aboard... We actually got stuck in traffic so we missed our 6pm connection back to Connel and Tierney got an overnight stay with Becca in Renfrew and I just booked a hotel in Glasgow and went for another night around the pubs there with old buddies and we both got back to Connel on the 12.30pm bus the next day and then it was back to The Whisky Island the next day via an hour in ma late great Huddersfield Town supporting friend Stevie Ellis’s pub in Lochgilphead called The Comm... Ah what you do for the young team eh - There’s not a chance ma uncles or aunties would dream of entertaining that kinda caper from me for sure - Aye - another good Manchester memory with a wee bit of HTAFC thrown in with ma wee pub catch with my good buddy’s from Honely ! 🥃 👍

My place is pure nuts. Only places like it are Glesca Royal (where if you get stabbed in the chest and are talking you can go in the waiting room) and the Royal London.
Sadly I'm working the late shift tomorrow as the junior doctors are sticking it to the government and someone, even an old git like me, has to try and keep the punters safe.
I'll do my best to bump any Town fan up the queue, but I would advise not coming to see me as I deal with really broken people.
Westie, your commitment to town, whisky and mischief is well documented. Once I've finished this wine I'll raise a glass of Laphroig to you, all Town fans, Darren Moore, and the ability of the blessed Lee Nicholls to keep the ball from the net. Slainte mhath

Slainte Enjoy that vino and Laphroaig Doc ! - It’s well deserved for sure... One Saturday night many moons ago (1998) I went to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for a (self inflicted) drunken ankle injury and it was bloody carnage indeed. So it’s order of priority and not order of queuing which I accepted and then it got worse as drunk women coming in crying and spewing vomit everywhere which smelt vile and I cannot do spew so left the room and sat on a trolley outside, in comes a blonde haired lad blood everywhere head split open by a machete and then it really kicked off big time at 3am as a cop got wheeled in by a policewoman and his trouser leg was cut off and a massive blister like a balloon. Being outside, I asked them what happened and he said a SIXTEEN year old girl had chucked a kettle of boiling water at him in her flat in Springburn ☹️ So, because he gets obvious priority and probably because he was a cop as well getting priority, they all went mad, bins getting chucked about, chairs (the unfixed ones) Hell I thought they’d be outside for the stretchers next - it was like Bayruit so it was ! The next thing around 30 cops arrived from nearby Baird Street arrived to restore order and lifted quite a few with their hands in tight bangles... I got seen at 6am and thanked them for their help and still remember an exasperated Sister Joanne Kerr from Coatbridge sayin that it just the usual weekend at the office there - How The Hell Do they actually cope with that disgraceful carry on as ‘routine’ - Have a safe shift tomorrow and going forward as well and your workmates also and all these at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary also - Surely Huddersfield cannot be as bad as Manchester and definitely Glasgow but I shudder to think if it has that Hospital jinxed word Royal in it ! 😉

Oh mate, I love what I do. Bought my degree working in some rough arsed pubs in Embra as a student. Guess A&E isn't much different. Treat people nice and try to meet their needs but when they're out of line they know it. With respect to my Glesca colleagues, the polisman would be waiting. He'd wait away from the waiting room because it just causes carnage. You will be seen in priority and then time order. As I said a blue and white will see you bumped up the queue as far as I can. getting your ankle seen to in three hours these days is good going. And Sister Kerr is probably a legend in Glasgow. We try mate. There was apparently a 24 hour wait to see a doctor in an A&E in Greater Manchester before the strikes. It got worse. I haven't the data for Calderdale and Huddersfield, but it's tough everywhere. I really feel for the people waiting as its not right. I haven't an answer, but I'll keep on trying to find one. I hope to see you on an island soon. I hear that there's some insane Octomore coming

Not off but usually a good collection of Town fans in the Turks Head. Absolutely ace old fashioned pub near the tram and bus station in Manchester.
