Cannot find post but somebody mentioned why would PL clubs send players to Town rather than top Championship sides, as well as game time I think, overall, we have a pretty good record of looking after these young lads.

Albeit under previous owner / manager / coaching team. It’s all different now, hope it works out for them well.

Was only gonna mention those two myself, Mooy too (joined on loan first, I believe). Diego Arismendi anyone? 😬 We should start a thread about footballers with the biggest number of syllables in their name… apparently Sotiris Papagiannopoulos is(or at 1 point was)the longest name in prem history. That's a good few syllables to start off with!

That's a good few syllables to start off with! I’d imagine the commentators of the day would have shortened that one to Papa to save time. So they can then spout inane stats and drivel for 90 minutes…

Very true, fair few players showed what they're capable of here. Drinkwater (destroyed his career with the Chelsea move then sitting on his wage), Chilwell, Smith-Rowe, Colwill to name a few. Hopefully we can get another one through the door this winter.

Thats a skill you can only develop through experience. If you go to a top of the table team you dont build that mindset. Coming to a team fighting relegation exposes young players to a changing room mood they might not see at their parent club. That experience of looking down the barrel could be the mindset difference in a cup final. Thats how we should sell this club as a loan destination.

Chelsea didn't want Izzy Brown at Rotherham and sent him to us once upon a time because they wanted to avoid just that kind of thing. I actually agree, though. I don't want young players who don't know how to be resilient. I want young players who have experience of turning losing runs around. I want young players to have faced a different kind of pressure to that which success brings. Far more character building. We know these clubs produce good footballers. But were I at those clubs I'd want to know they were also men with resilience and whose heads won't drop, even in tough situations.

We could try - Send your young keepers to us, their back muscles will get strengthened picking the ball out of the back of the net. Or Send your young strikers to us. See how really good they are surviving on scraps. Or Send your young midfielders to us. See how they cope with being booed by their own crowd after a defeat, or even a draw.

It used to be with loans that you were doing the big club a favour taking their player. They would try convince you the player was good enough for some game time.
It was probably Chelsea that started it but now you’re paying loan fees for anyone half decent competing with other teams. Paying money to improve another teams player. I still think it’s the way forward and the only way a team like Huddersfield could ever get to the Premier League. We’d never have done it without Mooy, Palmer, Brown, Ward and then nearly with Colwill.
