Such a shame for the lad. Very young for a keeper to pack in.
Always thought he was a really good keeper and was sad to see him leave when he did.
Best wishes to hmi for the next chapter of his life.

Even now, he's still spent more of his life as a Town player than not, he spent 17 years with us from youth level upwards.
He looked so good when he first properly broke through, I first remember watching him in a 1-0 home win against Leeds where he was unbelievable. An emblem of the excitement and optimism of supporting Town in the late 2000s & early 10s.

You mean getting his handicap down to scratch? Im just picturing him on the tee now with the 3 plums that used to sit behind us screaming "FASTER SMITHIES!!" at him, like they did every time he had the ball in his hands whether there was anyone to pass it to or not!

I think the only plums at his GC will be the ones in the mouths of (some of) the members…

Although he'd made an appearance as sub he made his full debut also against Leeds, not the most auspicious of starts mind, we lost 4-0.

Always find it strange that while Schindler gets all the adulation for his penalty, Smithies doesn’t get the same for his.
Maybe because he went first and Simonsen missed next.

Maybe it's cos one got us to the Championship and the other got us to the biggest, richest (at the time) and most watched league in the world

I really hope we don’t have to do it again.

Same how Simon Grayson tends to be ignored, even though he got us promoted. I see that differently though. We had a 40+ goal striker, their best striker was banged up in jail, yet we were held to 0-0 for 120 mins. Then on to picking the penalty takers and our first 3 missed. I don’t dislike him, but I don’t give him much credit for the promotion as harsh as it sounds. I guess I credit him for steadying the ship after it had got too much for Clark.

Was a good servant to the club . Can still picture him now stood on the town hall balcony after the playoff final victory singing "Golcar boys we are here" and the rest 🤣
