Just to take us away for the same tedious threads for a short while.
I have no idea what a football interview process looks like, I have run many processes myself and i wondered what process I would run for our next manager (because let's face it, whatever we've been doing doesn't work well)
So...
If you could include one thing in the interview process to try identify the best person for the job what would it be?
Mine would be that I asked them to watch 3 of our matches then give a presentation on our tactics, style of play and identofy any issues. Also then present their tactics with the team and the things that they would change/do.
(Serious suggestions preferred)

How would you make sure that players are in the penalty area whenever Sorba Thomas is in a position to cross the ball?

Would you ever play a striker as a full back?
If the answer is yes tell them the interview is terminated and that they can f**k off!

But hey I'm just a retired carpet weaver not a football manager so what feck do I know. Do I get the job Kev

What tactical instructions would you give to a team of Andy Booths?

(Serious suggestions preferred)...
Are you able to psychologically get into the heads of the players the benefits and rewards of being able to hold on to a lead in matches as it’s been a very long-standing problem here at Huddersfield Town AFC !

Good post. Based on recent years appointments this may help
What is your philosophy/ identity longer term
Plan A - Press/sit back? Front foot/counter? Shape? Play out/front? Etc - Plan B
Explain how you’ve achieved this with previous clubs / or why you didn’t apply this
Based on current squad which players fit into this identity
What limits are there to achieve that identity short term, how will you adapt now to end of season to secure championship status
Based on what you’ve seen of our matches what immediate improvements can we make. What 3 key players we can get more out of & how
What experiences have you working with difficult characters in a dressing room, explain how you’ve got around that to get the best out of the players/ team
Which of our B team players are you aware of etc. Any previous experience working with Russell / Worthington etc
What do you know about the town / surrounding areas? How will you engage with the fans / build rapport?
Which players have you identified we should look to sign in the summer
What is key to overachieve in this division with a team / budget below other teams

I would hope that the successful candidate would be prepared, have a plan and challenge whoever is interviewing as to if they think his plan (which would have to be realistic for a lower end Championship club) would be supported. The plan should include:
Playing style and football identity
Structure of backroom and engagement with the academy
Knowledge of the current squad and identity the areas that require attention in the summer
A fallback plan in the event of relegation (shows reality and the ability to adapt)
A long term vision for where the team could be in 6 months, 18 months, 3 years
How progress would be reviewed and the support required from the board. In turn how the new manager would support the board with the wider running of the club eg shaping of strategy, media commitments, fan engagement and community development
In short rather than sit there and answer questions and attempt to give the answers they think they want to hear be prepared to set the agenda.
I would expect any ambitious and forward thinking individual to be prepared in such a way. It would then be down to those interviewing to challenge, look under the bonnet and see if the words were credible or just a lot of waffle.
We need energy, drive, commitment, desire (to be successful for HTAFC and themselves) and have a personality that leads and gets people following them.
Any chump can rock up and give glib answers to an interviewer. Evidence so far has perhaps inferred that our current board could benefit from someone as described above. If those selecting the new man are intimidated or have their ego bruised then I would say they might not be entirely best placed to make the selection.
It's not what's asked, it's what the candidate says.

I think in the modern day, each manager interviews in their own way. Some do fancy PowerPoint dossiers. Some will sit and chat.
I think they all get questioned by a pan like any other job too.
For me, there should be a practical part. Like when you go for a teaching job you take a class for a 30 minute lesson etc.
They should do 30-45 mins, see how the players respond etc. Only issue with this would be wasting actual match prep time.

Scenario based questions...
1. You've just lost at home 1-0, do you still acknowledge the fans or walk straight down the tunnel?
2. Will you wear club gear at all times?
3. You start to challenge players who suddenly then pick up injuries, how would you deal with this?
4. Do you know all the words to smile awhile? If so, sing it.

"Well, its the same style as everyone else, we're trying to score goals and not concede them, just aren't as good as we'd like - I can start tomorrow"
