Gerry Murphy needs no introduction to Town fans, he served the club from 1988 to 2009, mostly involved with the youth setup/academy but also caretaker manager for three separate spells in 2007 and 2008.
In each of those spells, he masterminded a famous victory over local rivals and was responsible for a number of youth team/academy players who made it into the first team.
I'm interviewing Gerry shortly for the HTSA Heritage Project. Does anyone have any questions they'd like me to ask?

I would like to know what he wanted in a youth player. How much was skill and how much was work ethic. The player I have in mind is Michael Midwood, had all the skill and physically big for his age , but apparently a bad attitude. What other players does he feel missed the boat.

How did the conversation go when Hoyle dragged him into the office to tell him he was shutting the academy?
Did he ever feel short-changed by the quality of young lads that he had to work with, when all the best ones had been gobbled up by the bigger clubs?
Given the tiny percentage of academy products that forged a first team career at Town, or went on to have successful careers at League level, does he think, in retrospect, that the quality that he was producing year on year wasn’t actually good enough and worth the expense and effort?

To be fair, Murphy was long gone when the Academy closed.

During his stints as caretaker, did he ever feel he was under consideration for The Job - and would he have even wanted it?

Did the set up in the academy always develop strength and presence over technical ability? If so is that regretful. What was this influenced by i.e FA or internal factors?

Most naturally talented player in the academy under his watch? Whether they made the grade or not.

Is the myth of him bringing Damien Duff over from Ireland and then deeming him not good enough from his trial for him to sign for Blackburn true?

Was there a degree of nepotism in the academy when decent players were always being cut whilst relatives of certain academy staff, who couldn't pass wind, were always progressing?

Any truth to the rumours arsenal were sniffing round the Clarke brothers until injuries kicked in.

That name's a blast from the past!! Played against him as a junior. If I recall correctly he played for Netherton. He was a good 'big un' back then in the Gelpack League. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_MidwoodHe had a stellar time in 1998 playing for Doncaster Rovers, where he played on average nearly 3 games a day !

Yes, I saw him at Netherton and he stood out , but he was physically bigger than the others . I remember telling people when Town took him on that he was going to be a good un. He didn't make the grade here and I think Gerry got rid, rumour was bad attitude.

His dad and uncles ran Netherton football for years. At one point he got into bother cos he was playing Sunday league football whilst playing for either Halifax or Donny

What was the rationale behind playing a sweeper? Was is a system you favoured or was James Berrett such a natural square peg for the sweeper square hole?

Gerry had nothing but good words to say about the Town supporters in particular. As for the rest, you'll have to wait until the interview is published...

Great picture and he looks really contented... 🥃 😊
Questions for Gerry -
1) What do you think of the new manager and how do you think he’ll get on at HTAFC...
2) Do you prefer a Guinness or a MURPHY’s Irish Stout ! ☘️
(PS - And Thank You for all the good and decent youth players that you nurtured through at Huddersfield Town AFC) ! 👍
