I groan when we get this self-opinionated idiot "commentating" our games on Sky. Yesterday watching Town's second -half performance was bad enough, without having to put up with his (usual) constant whining drivel. Hearing him speak, you would think he was one of the best players in the history of the game, one who was skillful and always made the correct decisions. Andy - you weren't, so give your in-match coaching a rest. Goodness knows what your colleagues on Sky think.
Another poster on here has mentioned "Hinchcliffe - free" commentaries being publicized. Here's hoping they become permanent.

I’m amazed he’s considered to be the best EFL co-commentator. I don’t really enjoy listening to Don Goodman either but Hinchcliffe is extremely annoying.

He is a clueless moron. It is never a good town performance, it is always a bad performance from the opposition. 1st half yesterday it was all how bad WBA were. Always been the same with him.
Presume it's because he is ex massive?
Give me Mcanuff every day of the week.

He was a good choice in the early days of Fantasy Football if you'd spaffed all your budget on strikers, midfielders, and a decent keeper...
Utter gobshite as a pundit though.

He sums up to me how the EFL and Sky constantly undermine their own product
The Championship is a fantastically competitive league, so many fans of relegated clubs remark on how much more enjoyable it is as a sport that the Prem.
However we are subjected to crap commentary, even worse side-kicks and pundits, and terrible TV scheduling
Everything about this guy screams 'amateur' and 'cheap option', just like all the rest of the coverage

To say that he was supposed to be the summariser, he never explained the change in tactics in the second half. speaking as someone who is technically and formationally challenged, I would have much appreciated such an observation

What I hate most is his banter with the commentator when he is self-deprecating about his own career, but with that sort of little laugh that suggests “of course, that’s not really the case … I was fucking brilliant!”

My personal favourite is Clive Allen commentating on European football. He managed three months in Bordeaux and came home.

If man can build sex robots and invent nitrogen-fuelled cans of Guinness that taste as good as in the pub, surely they can create an AI commentator with Barry Davies’ voice and a non-racist Big Ron to sit next to him?
Come on scientists, you lazy bunch of cards!

He’s wank. I actually like Don Goodman and think Prutton is excellent but Sky have definitely chosen quantity over quantity with Championship Football.
Side issue but VAR shite has opened up a big opportunity for the EFL and the Championship. The games are much more entertaining than the Premier League but the whole TV product is poor.

Sevco won't/wouldn't allow ex Celtic players in the ground, as BT pundits. Could we do the same with Hinchcliffe, just because he's a c*** 🤔

He's insufferable. To be fair I don't think he does Town down too much, it's just part of Sky's tactic of trying to build season long narratives about promotion contenders, meaning they get a lot more focus when we play them. It's the absolutely shit banter that does it. Chuckling away with the co commentator with these half arsed jokes, witless faux self deprecation. He's crap at the big moments too, I can't remember how he called any Town goal ever.

It’s all about driving the product for Sky.
Employ twats and the supporters will have a right old moan and make sure the Sky branding is right up there on social media.
It’s why they use VAR like amateurs, or so it would seem. All part of their business plan…
Likewise they need to pump prime the EFL product in their overseas markets.

Is that why we still have to try to listen to Merson, whilst he’s eating a sweet, telling us that Tottenham won’t finish in the top half and struggling to pronounce Kulusevski (or most other names).

Hincliffe talks as if he was a decent player, he was rubbish. Totally irrelevant to the modern EFL also. Add Lee Hendrie to that list with his Brummie nasal drawl, ‘kin awful.
McAnuff is a fair pundit, knowledgable and engaging.
Mind you, we could be suffering from the gangsta extraordinaire…Clinton Morrison. I keep expecting him to burst into a verse of The Next Episode by Dr Dre.

At least with these inane commentators you can turn the sound off, but what irritates me most is the camera work. The regulation action replays from 8 different angles of every goal, no matter how long it takes, no matter the game has restarted already.
Couple of recent gaffes where they actually missed a goal being scored by constantly replaying an incident.
It's just too much and for too long. At one time missing the live action was a big no no for camera men, now it seems they're editing out the less exciting bits to constantly replay goalmouth incidents.
I've let myself get wound up, especially like the last couple of minutes of a game where the result is tight, the cameras panning across the fans, then the managers while the clock ticks down so you completely miss the final stages.
It's atrocious and camera controllers need to get a f*cking grip!

I always thought Danny Higginbotham (ex Stoke player) was the best commentator on EFL games. He was so knowledgeable on the clubs and the players and gave fair assessments.
Hinchliffe is a knob.

I find all co-commentators annoying, sat there spouting ballocks, why not lower the subscription price by having one commentator just doing the simple things like saying which player is on the ball.

Hinchliffe is a knob. 100% correct. Danny Higginbotham was always articulate and knowledgeable on a subject. When we were in the Premier League the amount of condescending drivel talked about us was staggering. So called experts spouting nonsense with zero knowledge of our club or its history. With Higginbotham he always seemed balanced and had done his research which was sadly lacking with the rest on the media gravy train.

If Im not there and we are on sky, I now watch without commentary, same as any other football match on tv. It does devalue the experience due to no crowd noise but saves me listening to commentators who are blatant Leeds or other club fans and fucking experts who wind me up to some tune. I know what I am watching, its football not splitting atoms. I would like the option of crowd noise only, no commentary. I appreciate the need for commentary for many who are watching/listening only to the game and those who like a commentary and expert comment.

BBC has just done this in the Chelsea game and missed the Leicester goal. Whilst they replayed the goal we missed, they then nearly missed another goal at the other end..
