Please pin this thread. If only to prove to people without them checking posting history (which sad sacks do that anyway?) that htafcokay posts good, positive and congratulatory stuff

The club does good things behind the scenes, and certain people that work there are a credit to Huddersfield Town. I really hope this event is a success and it leads to other similar events, as there's lots of history to celebrate.

If sky move the Birmingham game to say the Monday 29th April this would mean that I could attend - Something that I’d love to do as I have one big regret in life and that’s not being able to have gotten to Dearest old Leeds Road for a Match ! I have hundreds of pics that I got blown up to A4 rigid paper and I fish them out from time to time over a beer and a dram and try to encapsulate what it must’ve been like at attending such a beautiful old lady of a ground that was Leeds Road... 😊

My favourite chant/song was the Molly Malone one. Heard it more away than at home recently, but used to hear it all the time at LR, always got the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.

Nothing like it to make a kid feel awed. UTT then and now.

Walking up the old concrete steps, getting to the entrance at the back, the smell of Bovril, piss and cigarette smoke blowing across the sea of heads…then the view down the terrace and into the pitch! I first saw it as a 6 year old and it blew me away. Magnificent.

*Huddersfield Town to Commemorate Leeds Road with Anniversary Event*
Local sport enthusiasts have a unique opportunity to celebrate an important milestone in the town’s history later this month.
Huddersfield Town played their last ever game at the iconic Leeds Road ground nearly 30 years ago, and the club are hosting a special open day to mark the occasion.
The event will take place in the boardroom and Owen Scott Suite at the John Smith Stadium from noon to 3pm on 30th April.
As well as having the chance to browse memorabilia and other aspects of the club’s heritage, visitors can look forward to an exclusive question and answer session between 12:30 and 1:30pm.
The Q&A will be hosted by We Are Terriers journalist Steven Chicken, with contributions from former players Andy Booth and Peter Jackson, honourary president David Taylor, ex-director Alan Sykes, and well-known reporter Mel Booth.
The Huddersfield Town Supporters’ Association (HTSA) will also be on hand to showcase their own Leeds Road archive — and they’re keen to know whether fans have any artefacts from Leeds Road that could be displayed on the day.
*A HTSA spokesperson said*: “One of Yorkshire’s most beloved sport writers, Alan Thompson, put Leeds Road in the same category as the Bernabau in Madrid and San Siro in Milan.
“It was, he said, the home of his dreams. Many Town fans would no doubt agree, not least because their first and most cherished memories of the famous blue and white stripes were formed on its unassuming terraces and under its towering floodlights.
“The ground was destined to stand out from the beginning, when the club’s founding fathers tasked legendary architect Archibald Leitch with its design and construction.
“This ambition, rendered in steel and concrete, was soon matched on the turf: Promotion to the top flight; a successful F.A. Cup campaign; and three Division I titles in a row, not to mention the exploits of footballing greats such as Billy Smith, Denis Law, Ray Wilson, and Frank Worthington.
“Leeds Road also witnessed two world wars, the rise of women’s football, a catastrophic fire, countless sporting fashion statements, a rogues gallery of mascots, a rebrand or two, a record attendance of 67,037, and the UK’s first national pride parade — in short, the 20th century.
“We’re glad to see that the club share our firmly held belief that while it may be gone, it is far from forgotten.”
*Contributions and Enquiries* Fans interested in sharing Leeds Road memorabilia for the event can contact the club via email at info@htafc.com.

Would they have not been better doing this on a weekend, most people who work won't be able to make it on a Tuesday afternoon 🤷

Would they have not been better doing this on a weekend, most people who work won't be able to make it on a Tuesday afternoon 🤷 Something should be done in the evening to accommodate us. It’s like the drop in sessions they’re doing, good idea but only useful for people who don’t work during the day.

I played in the last Barlow Cup Final on Leeds Road. It was the Tuesday evening following Town's last match there v Blackpool the Saturday before. I remember there were lots of bits of turf missing around the touchline areas and the playing surface was rock-hard and very sandy. With only a couple of hundred or so spectators in the seats, the rest of the ground was quite solemn and eerie, especially the huge terrace side. I've got the game on video somewhere, it might even be on YouTube (I've never checked), so at least I'll have something to jog the old memory in my dotage.
