I think it is beyond doubt that the “handball” was not deliberate.
If the ball did strike Ollie Turton on the arm that would fulfill the definition of it being a “handball” (which is by no means clear on the footage that I have seen), then the relevant section of Rule 12 states that it is an offence if the hand/arm is considered to have made the body “unnaturally bigger” (which is further defined as when the position of the hand/arm is not a consequence of or justifiable by the player’s body movement for that specific situation).
In fairness to the referee, she was well-positioned to see the incident and had to make a judgement in real time, without the benefit of replays/VAR but Ollie Turton’s hand/arm position appeared to be clearly as a consequence of and/or justifiable by his attempt to legitimately block the cross (if anything his hand/arm was more compactly positioned than you often see in such circumstances).
In conclusion, in my view it was not a penalty and if you watch the extended highlights, the commentator thinks that the ball had gone out for a corner having struck Ollie Turton on the back.
We now need to look forward and concentrate on getting a result against Swansea.

Keith Hackett thinks it's an appalling decision - even given the ridiculous hand ball rules that we now play Whilst I agree with him on this, don't use Keith Hackett to back up any point. He's bitter and miserable and finds any way he can to slate and try and prove how all the refs were better when he was in charge. He is regularly corrected on the laws of the game.

Only pointed it out as my ex-referee friend shared it with me. Think he perhaps values his opinion as they worked together for many years.

the video showed the ref in a good place too see..and probably influenced that Turton had his arms out just before the cross..but when he turned he brought his arm in and she wouldn't see that..think it hit turton on the elbow as he fell over..Think she 'assumed' ....

It’s quite possible she asked the assistant if his arm was away from his body via their coms. However, on the footage there seemed quite a few players across the six yard box to say definitively could they have seen that. Anyway, it’s time to move on and time for the staff to pick the players up for next weekend.

The good thing about this vote is it’s bleeding obvious to the admin who’s a wum or maybe just a feminist or 2 among us .

Had we been 2 0 up, it might have passed without much comment??? Me, personally, would have preffered us to be up the pitch fucking about seeing it out??? We had the opportunity to do that but Sorba took a bizarre free kick out for a dead. For all the injustice of yesterday, this team hasn’t got a clue about game management. I wasnt naming names. Just annoyed we didnt 'play' the free kick between 2 or 3 of us and arse about along a touchline in their half looking for another foul or a throw etc to take bleeding ages to take etc. The simple thing is we dont need to score again, we do need posession and we need to keep hold of it or get a throw or a succession of throws or another free kick. You and I know that she blows the final whistle once we start doing that. Game management with the Alamo defence??

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a poll or here so decisive. Says it all, the ref made an absolutely horrendous decision.
