Can I just say that I really enjoyed the apathy the Steven Chicken has shown today in his player ratings. I think although he claims to be more removed from the emotion as us fans, you can tell even he, a paid journalist, is bored to death of some of these player. A personal highlight was Ben Wiles’ rating.
Jack Rudoni - 3 Offered little in his 30 minutes on the pitch and was culpable for Ipswich’s first-half goal after getting caught in possession running back towards his own goal and making only a half-hearted effort to win it back. Subbed off practically immediately in what we presume was another message from Andre Breitenreiter.
David Kasumu - 4 Started alright, in relative terms, but was altogether too casual in his effort to win the ball on the second goal. Increasingly ineffective in preventing Ipswich finding space between the lines.
Ben Wiles - 4 Present.

Ben Wiles just needs a better pre season and he’s gonna be Paul Scholes in league one for us next season - according to some on here.
I don’t know how Kasumu has become a professional. Very very limited ability with the ball. Positionally weak. An ok athlete, at times.
Rudoni would do well for a Swansea or similar.

Those three are solid gold League One standard players, which is partly why we're heading back there next season.

Both he and Rudoni lack the first touch to play in the second tier. So many times this season, Rudoni in particular needed an extra touch to control the ball and this was often the difference between a counter attack maintaining speed and momentum, or it fizzling out as the extra 2 or 3 seconds let's the opposition get back into position. I've told this anecdote to anyone who has had the misfortune of talking to me; I remember seeing Joe Lolley and Kasey Palmer exchanging passes during the warm up. Lolley wasn't bad, but after his first touch, would need another to nudge the ball into a position where he wanted to hit the ball. Kasey Palmer, on the other hand was touch perfect ever time, first touch placing the ball where he wanted to hit it from... In reference to the above maybe not fair to compare someone who has come through the lower leagues vs. someone who has come through the exceptional Chelsea academy, but it's the seconds that can make a difference. Combined with his lack of pace, that's why I'm a bit skeptical about Rudoni, especially as an attacking midfielder. But Kasumu sitting deeper would be effective in League one...

We'll blow me down...buy league 1 players and we end up in league 1.
You buy from the league you want to maintain or aspire to be in, not the one below unless they are an absolute gem.
I would say rudoni, kasumu and wiles are certainly not gems. Bang average league 1 players technically.

I really enjoy his content and output, and at £5 a month, reading about Town is often much more enjoyable and better value for money than actually watching them!

Good read, glad it's working out for him. It's great content, much more in-depth and researched than anyone else covering Town. Glad the club give him the same access

Well.....'free' as in included either as part of the newspaper you already pay for or, if online, like it is now, 'free' in that advertisers will pay for exposure so you, the reader, are not paying for it.....

Well the newspaper he worked for made him redundant so I don’t really understand your point. Subscription model like this works fine from my point of view. Not sure why you think it should be free?

I've got an annual subscription and think it's good value. You can see a lot of thought and time has gone into the articles which are always well written.
The only thing I don't rate, so to speak, are the player ratings. They come out about 1 minute after a match has finished. Not sure how can they provide ratings and write-ups so quickly, they feel a bit rushed probably because they are.
Overall though, worth the subs and will renew.

I dunno, I feel like you’d probably be writing the ratings as the game went along. Taking notes at least. Doesn’t take much then to finalise and send em out. I like the fact they’re released so quickly.

Also, I agree the content and in depth analysis are excellent. We’re lucky as town fans to have it. Plus who can beat a bit of crisp chat. Although i tried the sausage sandwich ones Hartrick was raving about and not that impressed.

Player ratings are always going to be very subjective
To me Steve seems a good lad and his articles and analysis are top notch, bargain at £5 a month 👌🏼
