MD mentioned in the press conference how he thought it was better for young players who were not going to make it in the first team to look at building their careers in lower leagues. His thinking was it was better for them than treading water in the B team. The retained list appears to confirm that is the clubs view. Quite a few fringe players have gone.

Of those still here I expect the following may be ones we want to ship on:
Scott High Kyle Hudlin Tyreece Simpson Danny Ward Kieran Phillips
And I expect people to come sniffing around:
Lee Nicholls Michal Helik Jack Rudoni Sorba Thomas

I think he'll try and see out his contract.

Should be today. Prediction: Burgzorg - Loan ended Edwards - Loan ended Matos - Loan ended Chapman - agreed 2 year contract Hogg - 1 year contract Ayina - option of further year taken by club (edit - just checked, seems we already did this under Moore) Nakayama - Released Diarra - Released Rhodes - Released Bellagambi - Released Hudlin - Released Simpson - Released Mahoney - Released Rowe - Released Austerfield - Released If it turns out that some idiot has already committed to the the option on Burgzorg, as happened with Mbenza then there's gonna be a riot! Is there? Because he would rip up League One single handedly. No matter whether he's selfish or not he is still a good player.

Interesting bit
With a desire to overhaul the complexion of our First Team and B Team, a number of contracted players have also been made available for transfer, and discussions with their representatives have already taken place. Should they depart, each will leave the Club with our best wishes for the future

Nobody on that list comes close to tucker.... If you know you know. Or Tim coco Clarke Nah.....clarke just in wrong era. Needed the backpass rule as was hopeless with his feet. Tucker on a different level.

I remember when Phil said in one of his interviews that we had a dozen players in the academy that would fetch £1m plus

Only surprise there for me is the young keeper Bellagambi, thought he might stay as 3rd choice or be loaned out.

I thought Myles Bright & Ben Midgley were highly rated? Think they've had a lot of injuries but Midge will be able to confirm

Simpson, High, Hudlin. Any others? harrat ? maybe Ward? You can probably add the likes of helik, nicholls, lees and some others to that to free up cash to strengthen. Whether clubs will pay what we want is another thing though.

Purely a formality, but I can't help feeling sorry for Yuta. Such a sincere guy, but I'm sure he'll look back on his time in Huddersfield / England as a waste of two years of his career.

We gave Hudlin not only a contract but an extension? Bonkers. Some of our transfer dealings in recent years have been absolutely ridiculous.

No real surprises on the list.
I thought with us being relegated and the season he's had that Aaron Rowe might have earned a contract.
However, I guess Cartwright made his mind up very early on about a lot of the youngsters.
Sounds like it's potentially going to be a very busy summer

When does the Stoke retained list come out?

Post by HuddsTerrier on May 17, 2024 16:14:24 GMT 1
I think it's a fair retained list
Glad Hogg got a deal and the rest of the first team released make sense
Most of those B Team lads are over 20 now and by that age they really need to be close to the first team ideally with a season loan at a decent standard under there belts - and they're not. There must be 15 there drawing a wage and even it's only £20k that's £300k or two first team players at League One
Lots more in that retained list to try and move on; Harratt, Hudlin, Simpson, Phillips, High stand out probably Asterfield as well. Those who played a lot last season will have interest in Championship or League One so expect people like Helik, Thomas, Nicholls to move
Key is clearing the decks quickly. We don't want to be doing business late in Sep while we haggle over small fees. Lets get a dressing room full of players excited to be at Huddersfield

21 off the books. A good start to reshaping the squad. And a damning indictment of the B team experiment. Far too many just nowhere near good enough.
