shame he was injured for so much of it. Every time he looked to be bedding in he got crocked. The last time by bloody Hogg! A real shame it didn’t work out, would’ve loved to see more of him. I can see fans of potential buyers thinking that he's injury prone. Just very unlucky

Shows just how bloated we were.
Potentially 24 out the door and we still have 28 left in the squad and I could very easily see us trying to shift another 12 or so of those remaining.

If it turns out that some idiot has already committed to the the option on Burgzorg, as happened with Mbenza then there's gonna be a riot! Is there? Because he would rip up League One single handedly. No matter whether he's selfish or not he is still a good player. It would be single handedly too as he wouldn’t pass to anyone else.

Contract for Hogg? Presumably the club has now dropped down to his level.

That (apart from two or three games) Rowe has looked completely and utterly ineffective in a town shirt. That and his agent is a cockwomble remember when rowe played well, everyone wanted him in team, but as you said he looked so out of his depth. but on a side note i love cockwomble as an insult Cockwomble and Numbnut are my 2 favourite I actually hadn't realised that Rowe will be 24 in September. Probably best he's moved on

Of those still here I expect the following may be ones we want to ship on: Scott High Kyle Hudlin Tyreece Simpson Danny Ward Kieran Phillips And I expect people to come sniffing around: Lee Nicholls Michal Helik Jack Rudoni Sorba Thomas I'd agree with that but we'll be lucky to shift Danny Ward. I think he'll try and see out his contract. Since Ward can press, then I wouldn't expect Duff to see him as the highest priority to move on, but I doubt he would stand in his way.

Must be a fucking nightmare at the stadium getting tapped up for contributions to 21 folk leaving! I go into hiding when one person leaves my work.

The players that are still contracted to the club but have been told to look for other clubs will fall into various categories:
I’m guessing Austerfield, High, Hudlin, Phillips and Simpson because they’re never going to be good enough, even for L1.
Harratt, Headley, possibly Kasumu, Thomas because they’re disruptive one way or another.
Then there’s the likely saleable assets that think they’re better than L1.

We bought him for silly money and paid silly wages. We then didnt use him and when we finally did, we didnt use his one and only talent. Had we simply left him on half way and cleared the ball into the opposition half at least he could have used that one talent and chased it. In the relegation season that may have been the best defensive tactic we had. ?? Watching him 'defend' made Sorba look like Bobby Moore. I can only assume you didn't see his 'control' near the half-way line that went out for a goal kick whilst he was on loan to Nottingham Forest? Seen every kick and miscontrol and fall over.. What we missed out on in a shockingly poor season was the opposition having to make decisions due to his pace, we had fuck all else to bother them and playing him as we did fucked us up even more. Personally I would have done the same with sorba last season, leave him up the pitch, let the opposition worry about him being there rather than him coming back and doing fuck all. These were two desperate seasons remenber..😉

The amount of dead wood still under contract is depressing and makes it hard to see how the great 'reset' can happen. Still, in 12 months time Cartwright will be able to say that the club is in a better position than it was 12 months ago etc etc.

People shouldn’t really have an issue with Hogg extending, he’s past his best but would be an asset in league one.
Also just scrolling through Twitter and so many people complaining about how many outgoings there are - we are about to completely rebuild, it’s gonna be a really exciting Summer for us fans. I’m sure there’ll be even more outgoings and plenty new faces.
No surprises on that list for me, seems like a really positive message from the club today UTFT

Only surprise there for me is the young keeper Bellagambi, thought he might stay as 3rd choice or be loaned out. I’m guessing (if rumours of Nichols going are true), Maxwel new number 1 with Chapman stepping up to number 2. Potentially then get in an older experienced keeper to be 3rd choice or even not bother and just use emergency loan if needed

I think it's a fair retained list Glad Hogg got a deal and the rest of the first team released make sense Most of those B Team lads are over 20 now and by that age they really need to be close to the first team ideally with a season loan at a decent standard under there belts - and they're not. There must be 15 there drawing a wage and even it's only £20k that's £300k or two first team players at League One Lots more in that retained list to try and move on; Harratt, Hudlin, Simpson, Phillips, High stand out probably Asterfield as well. Those who played a lot last season will have interest in Championship or League One so expect people like Helik, Thomas, Nicholls to move Key is clearing the decks quickly. We don't want to be doing business late in Sep while we haggle over small fees. Lets get a dressing room full of players excited to be at Huddersfield Don't think Hogg's deal is done & dusted, possibly a couple of other league one teams are interested in him.........One as player/coach.

Or maybe it’s a player and working to be a coach. But maybe he thinks can still be a starter and/or isn’t interested in coaching yet and thinks still has a year or two left in him

He is 35 years old for crying out loud, he cannot and should not be expected to play week in week out, if he wants to do that , then he should be allowed to go elsewhere and try and get that. But at 35 years old and if Duff wants to play a front font style, then quicker, more mobile players need bringing in. Hogg can do a bit part for us, but nothing else , its not fair on him or us , to ask him to do more.

OK we are have of different vies on players.IMO I would have given Rhodes another year ( as a advert for the game totally professional) I accept only as a sub but could be just what we need from time to time I would have and will be delighted if anyone comes in for Ward who has stolen wages long enough and is ,if I am to believe what I have heard? Is the rudest and most arrogant of people.

I like the look of the retained list, I see no reason why we would be discussing a contract extension for Hogg though, good servant to the club etc....but age and being part of the clubs losing mentality over the last few seasons to me would make me want to say a fond farewell and include him in the clearing decks exercise. none of the loaned players have really shone or stood out (Spencer the exception of course), but Hudlin, Simpson etc....we will either look to loan out for the remainder of their contracts or do a straight sell. Danny Ward is a difficult one to move on due to his injury record and lack of goals and assists so I doubt anyone will want to pay a fee for him. Personally I agree with an earlier poster that the development squad model is a bust, simply not enough talent coming out of the system. Filling a development squad with younger players discarded from other youth systems was never the answer unless they wanted to unearth one diamond player overlooked elsewhere. Diamonds are rare but not as rare as overlooked talent in professional football at the highest levels.

Like you say, it feels like the right time to part ways but could he have a part to play both on the pitch and in the dressing room next season? I really don’t know. What I do know is that, contrary to what some think, it won’t get any easier for him in League 1; less quality I’ll admit, but it will be equally fast and furious.

Imo we should only be retaining players we wouldn’t want to play against ourselves…imo Hoggy will be a good player in league 1 so I agree with a new contract for him.

Glad we're hoping to keep Hogg. Still offers a lot as a player and just a great example to have around the place. Think if wed have stayed up Id have been more comfortable to see him go, but in league 1 I think hell be a good asset for another year. He might be 35 but he was nowhere near one of our weakest players this season IMO.

I’d hate for that to happen to Hogg as he has been a terrific asset for so long.
