Suppose the one thing he will have going for him is a squad that can actually play out from the back in a top league and Kane.

Burnley will be chuckling away to themselves.
What to do with a coach who oversaw relegation?
Shall we sack him and pay up his contract? See if he’ll leave of his own accord? Persevere in the Championship?
Or get someone to pay up his contract and we’re quids in.
I think some people must see a bit more in Kompany than I do. Might end up being another Pep though, a ‘brilliant’ Mgr who has a squad so rich in talent he can’t fail…

I’d prefer to judge him on last season. His 1st game in charge of Burnley against us after overseeing a rebuild of the squad. Burnley looked absolutely superb in a season where he took them back up to the Premier League.

Burnley probably thinking they’ve saved a few bob here.
A Mgr who oversees a relegation gets a job at one of the top clubs in Europe.
I get that it’s not as simple as that, but it feels like an illogical appointment.
