Isn't it Lee Fowler day today?......Plus supporting cast, a very eventful & enjoyable day. It is indeed - the 20th anniversary. We've won play-off finals on the 26th, 28th, 29th and 31st of May, so it's easier to remember that we haven't won one yet on the 27th and the 30th. The BBC report below has Liam Lawrence playing for us, which might explain the penalty that he took. I don't remember more than two or three of the many incidents in the report; Boothy through on his own, their disallowed goal and the penalties (were ours all along the ground and sending the keeper the wrong way?) news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_3/3750811.stm

How to get to the Premier league from tier 4 without scoring.......Beat/match that record Arsenal, Liverpool, Utd & City.

Jacko doesn't get the recognition, nor the respect he deserves for what he did that season, in my opinion. I'm glad to see that he's involved on a matchday as it's the least the club could do for a man that dragged Huddersfield Town kicking and screaming out of that division and gave us some self-respect back. Special mention to Terry Yorath as well.

Love Jacko. Met him a few times and he’s always had time for a chat and been personable. Did a wonder job that season considering midway we were looking like we’d run out of steam.

Special mention to Terry Yorath as well. It was a remarkable achievement given the absolute state of the club in Summer 2003. There were a lot of hard working people behind the scenes too, all pulling together despite the worries they must personally have been feeling. An absolute model of creating success from adversity. It’s also a lesson that it doesn’t matter that much which division Town are in - 2 of the most enjoyable in my 50+ years are 79/80 (outstanding after years of darkness) and 03/04 (extremely relatable squad, management and club).

It’s also a lesson that it doesn’t matter that much which division Town are in - 2 of the most enjoyable in my 50+ years are 79/80 (outstanding after years of darkness) and 03/04 (extremely relatable squad, management and club). I got talking to Jacko at an event in 2019 and told him that despite seeing my team go all the way to the Premier League, the 2003-04 promotion season remains my favourite ever season. He seemed a bit shocked at that, but for me nothing will ever top it. It was my first 'proper' season, and when I say 'proper', I mean it was the first season I really got into football. I was eight years old, I'd been going with my Dad since 1999 (usually as punishment!) but for some reason, the pre-season of 2003-04 was when I really started taking it seriously. I'd read all the Town news in the Examiner every night and was really quite excited for the new season. I actually had to wait a couple of weeks as Dad's cousin Karen had her wedding on the opening day of the season - so we missed the Cambridge 2-2 match! We travelled all over that season, Bury, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Macclesfield, Kidderminster, Hull, York, Northampton (the abandoned one) and when we didn't go, we'd have Oggy and Kieran O'Regan on the radio and when Dad was working away, I'd listen to the midweek away matches on my radio upstairs. We even went to the ground for the Cheltenham and Lincoln away leg to watch them on a big screen on the pitch. We had a bunch of young kids and old gits, with little in between. As you said, relatable players, on the one hand you had the young lads who had been thrown in and then the older end who had all taken pay cuts and mostly from higher divisions to come and play for us. They were normal guys back then, and I can't remember any of them thinking they were bigger and better than us? While it wasn't the most technical team, it was full of hard workers and players that were willing to run through brick walls. I'd take that every day over the bunch of arseholes that have worn our shirt over the last few years. The Lincoln City home leg is probably my favourite moment as a Town fan. Never heard the place so loud and I still get emotional every single time I watch Rob Edwards scoring the winner. Yeah, we've had better players with more ability, but the 2003-04 team is one of the best Town sides we've had just for the sheer hard work, the togetherness and what they achieved that season against all the odds. Yeah we were in the bottom division, but those times were ace. I can't believe it's so long ago. That was and always will be my team.
