Just told my eldest. She laughed and said Palace away. Ffs. Did we think that is as good as it gets. Yes. And it was Town. Top of the Premier League! That season we spent longer in the European Cup positions than we did in the relegation zone. Still think Big Steve Mounié would have thrived in the Championship if we'd been able to make better use of the parachute money and not gone into "managed decline". Watched a YouTube documentary about Brest recently by a Canadian guy (Rabona TV is the channel), Mounié was interviewed and came across well. Hadn't realised that the €5m he went for was (and still is) their record signing. Anyway here's the video if anyone's interested:

Delighted for him. Always seemed like a lovely bloke and was one of the few Prem players who wanted to stay around. He didn't want to leave at the time, but I'm very glad he did as it's led to this brilliant opportunity. Olé Olé Olé

Palace away was fabulous, packed away end, made all the noise, sunny day, beers flowing and a great win.
Mounie thrived on crosses but sadly he never got any. DePoitre though was like a buffalo, that goal at Chelsea, and v Man Utd.
Wish we'd kept them but sadly we went into meltdown and still haven't recovered.
It was good while it lasted 👍

Problem for Brest is their stadium suffered storm damage last winter and have temporary seating,it only holds about 14000 anyway. There is talking they'll have to play European home games elsewhere.
They're appealing this, don't know of any outcome yet.

Yet some town fans didn’t think he was good enough for us in Championship…. And a certain PE teacher was too thick to think of a way to fit Mounie and Karlan Grant into the same team, so persevered with Campbell up front. Was very harsh on Stankovic as well, dropping him permanently for greasy haired carthorse Richard Stearman after one poor performance. Two cases of technically gifted players with good attitudes, who have each now qualified for the Champions League, being dropped in favour of two veteran cloggers. They've certainly proven Cowley wrong- his team finished 22nd in League Two last season. How we've allowed idiots to squander some brilliant talents over the years...

Totally agree about Stankovic, I thought he was an excellent defender, had a bit of pace and was showing real signs of being a class act. Ridiculous binning him off, wonder where he is now. We've employed some useless managers since Wagner quit and still don't seem to have found the right man for this club...after several attempts all we've seen is on going decline and disaster.Corberan excepted but we binned him off in the end too by selling off our better players to pay off recalled debts.

I was there and thought we had a real star on our hands ..... I was there too, but I had my doubts. There was a point in the 2nd half where he got the ball around the half way line in a lot of room and could have just run on goal with the ball but he completely mucked it up. Nice bloke though, briefly spoke to him after the game.

Stankovic is still at Sturm Graz, now their captain, and has just led them to the Austrian Bundesliga title

Remember walking out of Selhurst Park & some reporter from Calendar/LN stuck a mic under my chin & asked what I thought of the game, 'Steve Mounie is f*cking class' I replied (don't think it got used), celebrating with Burnley (beat Chelsea) fans in Victoria singing 'northern monkeys are top of the league'.....Referee had a great game at Palace pity that he was so shite at Wembley two years ago.

Despite his performance at Palace, I always thought Depoitre was more of an aerial threat than Mounie over a long run of games, at least initially. Depoitre let himself go though.

To be fair he barely had chance. Can't recall the timeline but didn't his injury happen before the season kicked off, or at least in the first few weeks?

After that Palace game I remember feeling relieved we could keep him until Jan. Felt like we'd unearthed a real gem that the top clubs would be clamouring for.
