Anything in this one? Seen it reported that we're interested alongside a few other sides (Blackpool, Rovrum etc). Initial thoughts are that he'd be a decent acquisition on a free. He had a good season at Blackpool last year, fits the profile of midfielder we need and Wendies fans seem to think he's a good egg.

Wednesday let him go in January when they had been consistently worse than us last year. They picked up and took us over after they sent him out to Blackpool. On the face of it, not the best prospect I have heard about.

Wednesday fans across the board seem to think he’s brilliant at L1 level, and seemed to have done well at Blackpool too.

He is a very good footballer and can pick a pass. One of those who is comfortably good enough at this level and has the ability to step up and be a good squad player in division above imho

My Wednesday supporting in-laws seem to rate him, would probably be a good signing if the rumour's true.

Wednesday fan here
Byers is a fantastic league 1 midfielder and on a free is a total no brainer. Played alongside Bannan in league 1 for us and did alot of the hard work which allowed Bannan to dictate most games. Also chipped in with quite a few important goals
Was a huge fans favourite at Wednesday and most fans were really sad to see him go. For whatever reason is never really worked out when he took the step up to the Championship.

I know bugger all about him but if he's a midfielder that's good enough to play in Lg1 then he's an upgrade on what we have.

We don’t really want a load of league one cloggers on the books do we. I’m all for a bit of pragmatism - cutting cloth accordingly and all that but we’ll just struggle on promotion if we don’t sign players with potential to play at that level.

Suppose that depends who we keep also. There are players in the squad who are capable in the champ were we to get promoted and that aren’t coming to the end age wise for that division.I’m looking at Nicholls,Helik,Spencer, balker,Healey.Thomas I’m pretty sure will leave and 2/3 of those could still also. There would be another group of players I still think could cut it at that level but we’ve just not seen enough yet,Radulovic, iorpenda and I want to say wiles but I know he’s a sore subject with a lot,big season ahead for him.We could therefore afford a couple of “cloggers” who should be good at this level for a season that we maybe had to keep on the books for say another season were we to go back up.we also have players already on the books I think come into that bracket, lees,Pearson,Hogg, ward if ever fit,I’d also chuck turton and Ruffels in that pool although a touch younger bit imagine most of them this is the last year of their contract and should we go up they would be let go. Point being I think 2/3 lads who could make a decent contribution this but wouldn’t be long term when looking at a promotion would be fine.Signings like Sorensen I think are ones that could kick on a level up so 2/3 of them also would be nice too. Duff did say we needed to look at bringing in players that improve us for now but also others that have the potential to step up further down the line so I’m fairly confident we won’t be putting together a side similar to what Rotherham seem to be. Apologies for the long winded reply!!

It comes across in the video the clubs put out.

I tend to agree on how many may go.still think the likes of Nicholls Helik sorba could well go,possibly koroma too and a couple that have maybe been told they can try find a club.the rudoni deal though will have laid down a marker though that if you want one of the first 3 you’re going to have to pay what we value them at. With fresh faces on playing staff and a new manager who literally cannot wait to get going tne atmosphere can very quickly shift, burgzorg has gone,if you look at what Matt shaw said on twitter rudoni going also moves on an attitude that was maybe not where it should have been, sorba probably goes.with a largely decent attitude amongst the group and “bad eggs” very much in the minority that maybe is all it needs. That said if we can move on players I’d be all for it.

If the recruitment staff look at Datm and read this thread, they must be laughing their cocks off, Some of the posts on here are laughable. I can imagine none of the posts are remotely accurate.I think the expectations of fans are way to high.We will finish up with the same load of rubbish that we usually recruit. Here,s hoping its me who is wrong!

There’s always (at least) 2 sides to every story. Fans had only heard from AB and took what he was saying at face value when it was clear he said what he said for his own reputation. Dreadful appointment who brought nothing positive to the club. Onwards and upwards now with a professional who is keen and capable. We all make mistakes. The club execs were given a second life. I actually think the desire to prove themselves right this time will work in our favour. I see a much more United club. Clearly we’re attracting players again now too albeit lower level.

Good signing for League Two on paper Must be a reason why nobody in this division have offered better wages than Vale. Unless the draw of Darren Moore was just too big

A few posts regarding this chap at Blackpool: avftt.co.uk/index.php?search/399035/&q=byers&o=dateEither way, now that we have Kane & Evans I'm not sure (based on what little I've seen) that Byers fits the profile of what we need now. And if he's gone to Port Vale, probably not of the quality we need either!
