I'm from Huddersfield and love tennis. Great sport to watch and even better play. Very little scope for cheating, a refreshing change from modern football.
I've got a Town season ticket again for next season but am already apprehensive about
(A) Cheating players. (B) Awful refereeing standards. (C) Relentless exposure to football on TV, Radio, newspapers, social media for 10 months of the year.
Wimbledon feels like a little oasis of sanity for 1/26th of the year.

Elite sport most people cannot get involved in. Closed ranks to most of us plebs unless you want to twat the ball back and forth with your mate in the park. Needs to get out last century get some music blasting out add a bit of colour a bit like the 20/20 in cricket or whatever it's called these days. Full of stuck up toffee nosed twats. Not true. There are loads of tennis clubs that have very reasonable annual fees for membership (mostly well under £100 a year). Not only that their membership (unless it is a more "exclusive" club) comes from all walks of life and backgrounds. A good racquet can be bought for under £100 as well. So financially it is not prohibitive. If you haven't played it it is a fantastic sport and all I have ever experienced is friendliness at the clubs I have been a member of of. There are good leagues as well where most levels of competence can participate. It is clearly a very misunderstood sport. Spot on but don't say that to the chippy working class heroes on here.

I was a member at Oakfield Tennis Club in Birkby when I still lived in Huddersfield. Great little club and the membership was under £100 for me and my kids. I lived looking over the courts so could pop down when it was nice weather/the courts were free. Decent.
