Isn’t it time the FA and clubs took a stand against explicit racism such as as Fernandez has been singing about? How are his black team mates expected to just forgive and forget. If he was in my club I would absolutely smash him in training every day until he reacted then I’d report him for violent conduct and force his departure… Piece of shit. We talk about kick it out and zero tolerance but in reality we accept it. You give a statement saying it’s not my views or nature and that’s that it’s swept under the carpet because x or y is a good player or worth millions to the club. Blatant hypocrisy. The FA or premier league should ban him. Pigs might fly. www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/jul/17/chelsea-disciplinary-action-enzo-fernandez-racist-chants-argentina?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

You don't think that you might be reported for violent conduct first for 'absolutely smashing' him in training every day? Maybe a different approach is needed

What about the rest of the team that were happily singing along too? Are they just getting away with it?

Sad indictment of our times really. Politics and world views spilling over into sport.
It happens of course, the 1936 games, Moscow in 1980, probably remembered because of the political significance.
But this is a different level, it’s a player who should have been coached in this sort of stuff. It’s not as though he’s a 2 bit side show to more glamorous team mates, he was signed for £100m+.
It’s continuing to boil as per usual, Mascherano defending him, Argies aren’t racist etc.
Sad sign of the times, and even sadder if it blows over in favour of him staying at Chelsea.
I’d imagine their board are furious, but there again, I’ve little sympathy with clubs like this who are trying to control the game and the FA.
It’s a fecked up world…

Very interesting article by Tim Vickery ( Talksports man in South America) where he talks about the history of this kind of racist culture in Argentina. As he says all but one of the Argentina squad plays in europe at very ethnically diverse clubs ( Fernandez has 6 black French players as teammates at Chelsea) , so you'd think theyd be more enlightened to join in with such a chant, even if the crowd arent. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cpe39n00ng2o

Not sure why Argentinians have a problem with the number of Africans playing for France (not as if its new), unless they are stopping them winning the world cup (which it didn't).......Maybe theirs a bit of German blood in the Argies squad?

Maybe theirs a bit of German blood in the Argies squad? Not a stretch by any means. There's literally a whole town in Argentina that's like a replica of villages outside Munich. The amount of Nazis who "retired" there would be unbelievable to people who haven't studied history.

Interesting that most of the focus is on the overt racism not the overt homophobia. They are equally abhorrent and should be equally condemned

Not sure why only Fernandez has been gone after, is if because of his price tag?
Chelsea can't really do anything about it he's on an 8 year contract earning a boat load. Another story will pop up and after a few games next season it will be gone.

Should Enzo have a right to free speech and his own views? Yes, and he *does* have that just like every other human, why do you ask?

Should Enzo have a right to free speech and his own views? He does. As does everyone calling him a raciest and homophobic c*** for the views he holds.

Freedom of speech is fine but everyone is responsible for what they say and the potential consequences. He will have to deal with his black/french colleagues at Chelsea. I don’t think an insta post saying something he did a week ago is not what he actually thinks will wash.

There isn't a single Argentina player who's indigenous to Argentina. The squad are children and grandchildren of Spanish, Italian, and Polish immigrants, sometimes with some indigenous ancestry. They have more players of foreign stock than France, by a distance as well. But France gets stick from Argentina because their players of foreign stock are black.
I hate it when a footballer does an idiotic thing that disillusions their own team mates, and the response of the club is always to talk to the idiot first and rush out an apology without a thought to the team mates. Postecoglou had the right response I thought when a Spurs player said something silly about Son. He asked Son how it made him feel and what he wanted to be done about it, then acted on it. Luckily Son wanted to bury the hatchet and move on. But if he hadn't, the option was there. Gusto, Disasi, Fofana, and any other Black Frenchmen playing for Chelsea (I think there's more) haven't been given that option.

Anyway, if you're ever wondering why Argentina has less black people than any other South American country (only 3 Black Argentines have played for the national team), here's a very interesting article archive.ph/LE3Y6

Another story will pop up and after a few games next season it will be gone. They could fine him. Make him play with the reserves. Lots of sanctions or they could sell him. They could come out with a statement condemning his racist homo/transohobic singing which he posted online. But you’re likely right. They’ll do the bare minimum and brush it under the carpet. Then we can hear about Chelsea unequivocal support of kick it out campaign later in the season. The black French players will be told not to make a fuss. Hes apologised so leave it etc…

The first training session with the whole squad will be interesting. There will be a couple (or more) nasty challenges going in on Enzo.

Football is so hypocritical, they'll all take the knee but when something really matters, it will depend on how good a player is. I bet you if this had been an average youth team player, Chelsea would've kicked him out by now.
Same with Henderson & his stance for Gay rights etc - soon went out of the window when he was offered big bucks to play in Saudi.

Every players support of gay rights by the wearing of rainbow laces and armbands went out the window when the WC was in Qatar. Seems unfair on Henderson that he gets singled out.

He set himself as the big pro Lbtq+ guy and was sponsor/representative/patron, for some groups. He then went to Saudi and never said a single word in support of those groups. That’s why they gave him a rough time. He acknowledged this himself iirc.

What’s the translation of what he said? The chant that has caused uproar suggested that French players of African and Caribbean descent aren't French, with the lyrics: "Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian, but on the passport it says: French", reports the Mirror. It's been insinuated that the transphobic element of the chant was directed at Kylian Mbappe, due to rumours linking him with previously dating transgender model Ines Rau. Following the widespread circulation of the chant on social media platforms, Fernandez issued an apologetic statement saying: "I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations, the song includes highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words." www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1924266/Enzo-fernandez-racist-chant-chelsea-argentina#

You're right, but its because Henderson went out of his way align himself with gay rights and speak out about it etc, when he saw the dollar signs he couldnt give a toss about principals n'all all that, but i suppose many on here would abandon them too if a few million was on offer.
