If anyones interested or fancies watching something different the All Ireland hurling final is live on BBC 2 throw in at 3:30 between Cork and Clare I know there are a fair few Irish town fans and also second generation living in Hudds and I know Westie has watched hurling before, these players dont get paid and they all come from the county they represent, they really do do it for the pride of the jersey. Its not town related so feel free to move to off topic

Maybe 15 years or so ago I saw Offaly v Galway and Clare v Down in the All-Ireland Hurling semifinals in Dublin whilst staying with friends of my wife in Tullamore, County Offaly.
Loved the whole experience, GAA is massively important in all the communities. Loved the atmosphere, the camaraderie, the passion and the craic about the whole day.
Also went to a Junior Gaelic Football game in Tullamore the evening before, Offaly v Laois.

Great half. I thought Cork were going to run away with it a couple of times, so brilliant to be level.

We went to the semi finals (Cork v Waterford) some years ago at Croke Park. It was pissing down and there was little else to do (for a family) in Dublin. Great afternoon, really enjoyed it.
Bought a programme. Didn't realise it would all be in Gaelic.

I think I'm still the reigning hurling world champion since my 2003 effort outside ethos having drank 12 pints and 10 red aftershocks (anyone remember that filth?)

Replay in a fortnight prevented, plus it would have been another expensive day out for both sets of fans.....Footy final next week between Galway & Armagh at Croke Park.

Watched this today in Beckets Irish bar in Budapest with a load of Irish lads. Don’t know anything about the game, but it was pretty entertaining!

My father in law turned out for Cork a few times, lost his front teeth and emigrated to Yorkshire. He became a leading light in schoolboy rugby league, managing the schoolboy tours to France and Australia. He used to say RL was a breeze next to hurling.

I’m in Galway that afternoon with the races the next day, should be a great weekend.

Been to few games at Croke Park and was as this years Kilkenny v Clare semi final.Always a good occasion, never understood why Gaelic football seems to be bit more popular in Ireland than Hurling.

Hurling hasn’t historically been played to any great standard in the north of the country. Still a great sport to watch and everyone was watching/interested yesterday afternoon. I’ve tickets to the final next Sunday but I’m back in England so can’t go. Fermanagh (where I live) haven’t ever won even an Ulster football final so it’s a tough watch (no change from supporting Town I guess). My eldest plays for the local clubs in (Gaelic) football, hurling and soccer though.

I think that football is more accessible especially for kids. Furthermore, there are more footballing counties as opposed to hurling counties. Kilkenny for instance is pure hurling and football is a poor relation where in Mayo it’s the other way around. Some counties, like Galway, Limerick, Cork, Tipp play both at the highest level. Ironically enough, there’s a great little GAA museum in county Clare; really informative and the history is fascinating. It’s in the lifeblood of the Republic. It’s in the middle of nowhere in the Burren, just in from a tiny village called Carron, where there is one of the greatest pubs in Ireland.

They’ve decided to join me and others on the lash in Galway to watch the game. We are watching Samuel Beckett’s bleak play Endgame at the Town Hall as part of the Festival and they’ve brought the performance forward so folk can watch the game. I’m deffo mixing two kinds of Irish culture on Sunday! 😃

I would skip the play - you’ve probably been hit Galway is a great place with Irish music in all the pubs although it’ll be rammed for the festival weekend. Have a belter anyway!☘️

In a pub in Kilkenny a few years ago,an American tourist was asking why so many kids were walking round with sticks, they found it a bit intimidating.
