As if they need any more shitness added to their refs, according to westislandterrier anyway they're already the worst, most biased refs in the business. Add Jon Moss' arrogance and incompetence to that mix and it should be fun

If you are a Town fan this beggars belief, but when you think about it this is symptomatic of the problem with refereeing in this country. Put bluntly it is "jobs for the boys". If however you were to make that criticism Howard Webb would trot out the usual rhetoric about Moss' experience and knowledge that he will bring to the role.
Criticism from Town fans will be dismissed as we have a "grudge" (we don't need to open that debate again) but the fact is very few people supported the decisions taken that day at Wembley. Given that Moss now has responsibility for governing a process that most feel failed that day it negates the experience and knowledge argument.
I would like to see the English game bring in officials from overseas. Different experiences and a lack of history in the English game may be beneficial. We have many overseas players so why not referees?
One thing thatwe can be certain of is that there will still be contentious decisions. VAR was meant to eliminate this but for me the process is wrong. The referee on the field should have the call, if he is unsure then he asks for assistance (from VAR) e.g. "is there any reason why I can't award this goal?" or "can you check that challenge?". For some reason, probably to do with crowd behaviours, there seems to be a reluctance to be transparent (as they are in Rugby, Cricket etc).
Overall Moss will just be another faceless voice who will justify his existence with platitudes and excuses. But he isn't in a minority when it comes to English refereeing.

The Premier League clubs had a great opportunity to scrap VAR, its a shame they didnt follow Wolves example and get shut. At least one big positive about being in League 1 is that we arent likely to see it.

Add Jon Moss' arrogance and incompetence to that mix and it should be fun Yep mosher - I don’t think he knows what he’s let himself in for up here where Premier League Football eats itself to death especially over officials or ‘Cheats with Whistles, Flags and Moniters’ as I heard them being described as in a pub in Inverness recently ! Already on the pages of a Rangers website called Follow Follow they have a thread with a couple of pages about him where they have conducted ‘background checks’ to ascertation if he’s ‘one of us’ or ‘one of theym’ (I suspect he is very much neither) ! 😉 They have also worked out which schools he worked at and that he has a record shop in Leeds - Something that I already knew from on here at DATM... But this is what he’s up against though and it wasn’t a great start for them las weekend as Hearts were denied a stonewall penalty v Rangers for a hugely clear handball which inexplicably wasn’t given by The referee nor VAR... The very next day Kilmarnock goalkeeper Robbie McCrorie completely took out Celtic striker Kyogo in the box - A Penalty all day long but not given... It would not effect the outcome in any way as Celtic were home n’ hosed and nobody more than me wants to see Celtic reigned in a wee bit for the sake of the bizarre game up here in the top league (and I say the exact same about Rangers winning everything in The 90’s) but rules are rules and ought to be enforced fairly without fear nor favour... But anyway he’s here and I guess I’ll here ‘plenty’ about him in pubs going forward and if so I’ll point out his blatant cheating against HTAFC in 2022 v Notts Forest And with good reason at that... It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on and how long he lasts in the football goldfish bowl and bear pit that is Scottish Football !

Hahahaha just when I thought the refereeing couldn’t get any worse in Scotland. If you want to see a blatant penalty turned down up there, check out last weeks Celtic game, the Celtic striker gets clattered by the keeper while rounding him and the ref and VAR give nothing. The stupid thing was he had the ball under control even after rounding the keeper, only problem was the keeper took him out so he couldn’t finish it off. Scotland refereeing is so bad, it’s like getting Moss every week, but now they will 😂

The applicant shortlist must have been Jon Moss, Stevie Wonder, David Blunkett and The Flash from the DC comics.
Often wondered why Collina never got involved in running the referee's side of things. Then I looked into it and he became head of refeering in the Ukraine in 2018 and helped bring VAR into play for the 2018 world cup. Nice little tangent for your weekend there.

PGMOL is funded by every club paying for the service they provide. Owned by the FA, PL and EFL it is a Ltd company..and in theory was supposed to bring higher standards of professionalism to refereeing .. The 'problem' is it's become an old boys network, where retired refs can almost guarantee a full time job with PGMOL afterwards. More worrying though it is managed by a board which contains those self same ex refs.. With very little outside expertise within PGMOL it has developed into a festering cesspit of utter incompetence which will only get worse because the 'adjudicators' are in fact the refs and ex-refs themselves..
Is there an alternative ? probably not,but the PL have the power as main funders to encourage change within PGMOL, like restructuring, bringing in outside expertise etc etc..but that doesn't seem to have happened for some reason..so meanwhile PGMOL have a monopoly and thus no competition and therefor no incentive to improve.

Begs the question why it seems to be done well on the continent. Perfectly understandable mistakes from referees, watch on VAR, realise the error, change the decision. I'm at a Lo$$ why that can't be done h£r£.
