That’s weird - I thought I was responding to a Shearer post? Miles off if it was a Maskell post - great player but always thought he didn’t give a shiny shite about Town. I don't think he did. Handed several transfer requests in, didn't he? Absolutely cracking striker with an easy flair but just hard to warm to - Mel Booth tried his best (“jeans adverts looks”) but you could tell he was purely in it for himself. This is fine, but found it hard to care that much when he finally left. Would be a really interesting interview, but as you told someone else, if he doesn’t respond to requests what can you do?

I'd like to speak to him if only to ask him if he remembers having an argument in Johnny's with my Dad and his pals circa 1989 😄 Maskell and Mick Byrne hated each other, I know that much.

Maskell was a class act. Actually played in the top flight for a short spell.

Maskell was a class act. Actually played in the top flight for a short spell. That's not really a good barometer, so did Pritchard, Diakhaby and Mbenza Just a jest, I only saw Maskell play a couple of times but remember him being a classy footballer.

The only time in our history we have played for free kicks at the edge of the box because we knew he would get 2 out of 3 on target and 1 in 3 would be a goal.
Never settled “up north”

I think it’s a bit of nostalgia but one of my favourites. Standing on the grass bank at Wigan, watching him curl another free kick in the top corner will always stick in my mind. Shit. I forgot about that,I was there too and then ended up trying to shelter in that little tin shed thing they had at the top of the grass bank if I remember correctly Here's a link to a pic of it(I don't know how to copy and paste it on my phone) !!https://images.app.goo.gl/njPhN6q2NLSQi8qT6

Best one-on-one finisher I have ever seen at Town as well. Him and Iwan Roberts would have been a dream partnership. Why?what was wrong with him and Mike 'donkey Cess' Cecere?? 🤣🤣

Duncan Shearer was my first hero, still in the game with Inverness Is he still ginger? Or has he lost his carrot like head of hair like Steve Davis seems to have done these days!! Lol

Superb player. We went through a phase of having really prolific strikers while still managing to be a thoroughly mediocre team 😂 Yeah. Shearer,Maskell,Iwan Roberts,Iffy(maybe not),Boothy, Starbuck,Jeppo,Stewart and Rhodes to name a few!!

Came back from holiday and my mate was raving about him, only seen him in friendlies too, saw him first match of season at Brentford but he didnt score, he scored a few afterwards though, 30 odd in fact, one of my all time favourites! I don't think any Town players scored that day. We lost 1-0 if I remember rightly.

Always wore a long sleeve shirt with the collar buttoned up (when we had collars). He's up there with the best goalscorers at our club in my opinion, even if it was only for two seasons. That's something that always stuck in my head about him too. I always wanted one of them long sleeved shirts like he wore when I was a kid too!!! I liked that Greenalls beers, thin striped home shirt we wore that season but hated that yellow and black chequered away strip at the time but I actually love it now!!

Have you managed to contact him for one of your interviews or are you going to try, that would be a gud'un. Already tried, no response. He never responded when we used to chant "Maskell give us a " either!! Lol

Shearer,Maskell,Iwan Roberts,Iffy(maybe not),Boothy, Starbuck,Jeppo,Stewart and Rhodes to name a few!! Iffy was a scorer of great goals but not a great goalscorer, if that makes sense. You never knew what he was to do (neither did he). He could dribble through and around 8 players get one on one with the keeper and then fall over the ball but always entertaining

I remember being in Blackpool with my parents and watching the vidi-printer on BBC1 in the TV room and seeing the score come up and being shocked that we lost because I'd only started following football the year before and had never even heard of Brentford and thought we was gonna get promoted easily!!!

For younger Town fans Iffy was a cross between Colin Quaner and Delano - could do amazing things but could also fail/ fall with the most basic. I've just checked online and didn't realise how many clubs he played for and how many appearances he made after Town. 8 other clubs making a total of 453 appearances with 117 goals. Not the best record but definitely not too shabby!! IIIIffy..Iffy..Iffy!! .

Maskell was a class act. Actually played in the top flight for a short spell. I think he played for Swindon in top flight who we sold him too. That feels so long ago . They had Glen Hoddle as manager and I think got demoted 2 or 3 divisions for something or other , Maskell might even of been at Swindon at that time.

I suspect it'll have been one of those where someone winds him up, he retaliates, etc etc.
