Isn't it simply a League to determine the UEFA Champions? Ie the UEFA Champions League? I think its actually the word "league" that confuses people rather than "champions", the cup awarded at the end is the European Champion Clubs' Cup, if the entire tournament was known as the "European Champion Clubs' Cup", or the European Champions Cup, nobody would bat an eyelid about non national champion clubs entering. So it should just be called the UEFA Super League or something. Or maybe UEFA Champions Super League and a bit of Knockout

It’s a combination of many things.
Our age, you generally lose the youthful hope as you grow older.
Money, driving teams to spare star players in earlier rounds. And let’s not forget that the huge match day squad and at least 5 subs plays into their favour.
TV driving the programme and scheduling, in cahoots with the FA who are often more interested in their global reach than the domestic supporters.
Everything is skewed towards the big clubs coming out on top, when it would probably happen more naturally anyway. But best not take the chance for Man Utd to be humiliated at Newport, so let’s load the odds as best we can.
The FA, only interested in the money, semi finals being at Wembley is as a direct result of cost overruns on the stadium build. Compare the price of Wembley versus other national stadiums, it’s absolutely ridiculous that they paid that sort of money. Rank bad management in the FA would have been partly to blame for that.
Loads of other things available outside of football, whereas previously the only show in town would have been a big cup game there are so many other distractions now.
I’m getting old… 😂

The last cup games I really enjoyed were Rochdale away in the 3rd round of the FA Cup in 2017- simply because that was the game where I thought "this team might actually be a bit special, promotion is truly on the cards!" for the first time.
That or Wimbledon at home when Tommy Cowan put us 2-0 up only for us to be pegged back to 2-2, and we were the featured game on MOTD.

To this day, that Wimbledon game was by far the worst example of game management by Town. Maybe they were just giddy, but why they didn’t just eat up the time on that last attack? I’ll never fathom that one.

People have to remember how it use to be, very hard for anyone born in the last 40/50years. Without doubt it is Television that killed the F A Cup, just imagine now no tv, no mobile phones, no computers, the only way to see your team was to go and watch them. Look at Southampton who were a second division side then when they beat Man Utd in the final in 1976 and Sunderland beating Beeston> The league cup was won by 3rd division Swindon in 1967 and even back then all the big clubs had the money and attracted the best players. You look at the top 6/7/8 clubs in the premier league and then look at the old division one in the 60's 70s they are the same clubs.

I love the FA Cup. Now we are in L1 and in the first round its different. I guess if we draw a non league club within 100 miles or so (away) we will sell out.

Would never have happened because the rest of Europe never valued their cup competitions as much as we did, but when they first announced the restructuring of the European Cup to make the CL I said it should be the 3 cup winners (FA Cup, FL Cup and League) that qualify for the Champions League. At least all 3 would actually be champions of something. Someone a while ago though posted something explaining that Champions League didn't mean the champions of each league but something entirely different, although I can't remember the reasoning. Isn't it simply a League to determine the UEFA Champions? Ie the UEFA Champions League? I think its actually the word "league" that confuses people rather than "champions", the cup awarded at the end is the European Champion Clubs' Cup, if the entire tournament was known as the "European Champion Clubs' Cup", or the European Champions Cup, nobody would bat an eyelid about non national champion clubs entering.Yeah I think that's the explanation that I was referring to. I think the opposite though, they should remove the word Champions from it because it's not Champions competing, just call it the Euro League, or heaven forfend just The European Cup

There are several groups of people and organisations who seem hell-bent on destroying the FA Cup - including the FA, which seems weird given that domestically it's their crown jewel.
As a Town supporter, it's very difficult to enjoy - I don't need to explain why.
But...it's still the greatest domestic cup competition in the World, and I bloody love it. It'll be a cold day in Hell when I stop getting a tingle downstairs on 3rd round day. Town being crap in it has made me appreciate it even more as a neutral - at least until after the quarters. Then it's a pile of wank.

You only have to look at the crowds in the 70's to see how the cup was valued. The biggest crowds of the season were always in the FA Cup The first year i started going 1970/71 we played Stoke City in a 3rd round replay and the crowd was over 40,000. Even though we were in the First Division and played the top clubs our league average was only mid 20.000'sThe league game with Stoke (a month and a day later) on a Saturday (as opposed to Tuesday) had an attendance of less than 16,000.
