Aw no..terribly sad news.
The 88-89 season was when I got into going away on a regular basis.
Fond memories of Steve,a solid keeper behind an often shaky defence.
Always seemed like such a nice guy as well.
Sleep well Super Stevie Hardwick. RIP.

RIP Steve He replaced Brian Cox in just my second season watching Town as a young lad. 87/88 I attended sporadically but 88/89 season when Steve was number 1 was when I was going to every home game. RIP Steve. |

Aw no. My first proper town goalie. I scored 3 penalties past him at the open day at Leeds Road in 1989/90. RIP.

He played for Town at a time I was only seeing three or four games a season what with being abroad a lot with my job and having two young children, but it’s always sad to hear about the passing of any ex-Town player.

Like a few others, he was the goalie when I first started watching Town. The Forrest game being my first ever match.

RIP Steve - fondly remembered as reliable and solid. Thank you. Solid is exactly how I'd describe him (& TBH that's the first attribute you want from a keeper). Definitely towards the top of the list of keepers I've seen at Town May he rest in peace. Best wishes to his family at this sad time. |

Very sad indeed and deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones left behind from the back sticks of Western Scotland...
Just went a wander there in this most beautiful of weather days (Huddy Town blue sky and Huddy Town blue flat calm sea) and thought of the peacefulness and calm that Steve now has though of course we wish he was still here with us of course...
Being a goalie in ma village team it’s always sad when one from my own position passes especially with him having played for Huddersfield Town...
It’s been a brutal week in the football world with the passing of Steve Hardwick, Gary Shaw and Toto Schiealli of Italy (R.I.P. all three)...
At my age of 54 it really starts to hit you and is becoming scary indeed...

I missed most of the 80s town games having neither the money or transport to get to games. However I think I caught some of the 1990-91 season games so would have presumably seen Hardwick in goal.

The days of the collared plain green jumper with a white 1 on the back and the thin gloves with pimply rubber bits on the fingers where keepers got dirty.

Can always remember at some away game after saving a pen, the fans singing affectionally.... He's fat, He's round, He's worth a million pound, Stevie Hardwick Stevie Hardwick !!! Not so sure the size accuracy, but defo worth a million pounds back then. Great keeper. R.I.P

RIP I remember him being in goal at Bradford away and after he let either a soft goal or a couple of goals in a small section of Town fans started chanting "Lee,Lee,Lee" (Martin),and Hardwick turned round angrily gesturing at them and stuck 2 fingers up. The rest of the Town end then cheered and applauded him and started signing "there's only 1 Stevie Hardwick",to which he turned around and applauded us. I have good memories of him and remember seeing him save a few penalties too. |
