With a decent striker we win against Wrexham. One who can take a chance rather than needing 6. Remind me what decent chances we created? We had 7 shots on target. A better striker would have put at least one of those away. "Decent" is subjective.

One of these is a Bojan shot where the keeper is practically on top of the ball, another is a Danny Ward flick from the edge of the box where prettt much nobody is scoring from , and the final one is a Rhys Healey effort that I can’t actually remember, but I would have surely remembered better if it was a good chance

Meanwhile Joe Taylor has enjoyed 59 minutes of senior football since Luton pulled the plug on his move here.
The knock on effect of that was then the panic signing of Ladapo - a profile largely unsuited for what Duff wants to do (to add to those that were already here).
If not Taylor himself, somebody of his ilk will be the target in January - 50% goalscorer / 50% pest.
Hopefully Bojan will have shown enough between now and then to get a loan to the Jupiler League or equivalent.

Joe Taylor is a done deal, £2m. I've been told this by a very reliable source after much badgering by me. First time I've ever posted such as this, and probably the last 😆. Fingers crossed they're not pulling my leg

'Big chances', such a pointless stat when what makes a 'big chance' is completely subjective. Yes we are capable of putting weaker sides to the sword, as we have shown, but against better sides we simply don't create anywhere near enough chances to be able to justify bringing in yet more strikers. Possession, and I'm talking about meaningful possession against better sides, is where our biggest improvements need to be made. With a decent striker we win against Wrexham. One who can take a chance rather than needing 6. Except we didn't create 6 chances

Yet we scored 3 on Saturday with both Bojan and Marshall scoring. We're a league 1 club with league 1 strikers. They are not going to be great or consistent. I'd imagine we will go back in for Joe Taylor in January as he's getting virtually no game time at Luton Bit of a daft argument this, given we've had some fantastic strikers in previous League One seasons.

The problem for me is that we don’t really know how good or bad our strikers are. We don’t create enough chances for them to feed off. We haven’t done so for several seasons. While we all may have different views on the quality of- or lack off- the strikers it’s not as if they are missing chance after chance each game. They may only get a couple of chances. If we had a run of games where they each had loads of chances it may be different. I’m sure Steven Chicken has covered this at some point.

They can't, or very rarely, take that one chance we have seen numerous teams take against us this year. Sorry but that makes absolutely no sense, and also simply isn't true. Good teams don't only create one chance in a match, and even the best strikers in the world don't score with every chance they get. I think you need to go back and watch this seasons matches, if you honestly think our strikers are spurning chance after chance, when infact the opposite is true, in that they have done reasonably well with what has been mostly poor or mediocre service, and that is something the stats do back up. You aren't going to create chances or score goals, if your midfield throw the ball away every time they receive it, that is the crux of the problem here.

To be fair to Impact, over the course of the season here are the league xG stats for the strikers...
Josh Koroma - 4 goals, 3.6 xG Bojan Radulovic - 1 goal, 2.3 xG Callum Marshall - 2 goals, 2.1 xG Rhys Healey - 0 goals, 1.5 xG Danny Ward - 0 goals, 0.7 xG Freddie Ladapo - 0 goals, 0.2 xG
Overall, our strikers have got 7 goals between them, and 9.4 xG between them, showing that they have actually underperformed in terms of finishing,.however I would say that they are getting better

The Bojan one I've seen plenty of (better) strikers dink it over the keeper or swerve it round/under him from that kind of position. The Ward flick-on is obviously a bit harder but again, seen plenty score from that position before, whether more luck than judgement is another matter. The Healey one I'm like you and don't remember that one as clearly, I'll have to watch the highlights again.

I get the point chances aren’t been created, but great strikers create chances out of nothing . Shooting from distance , beating players one on one etc. we just have run of the mill strikers who never do out of the ordinary stuff. We are screaming out for a better forward line, and I’m a happy clapper.

You're quite right we have had some fantastic strikers. My first season was in 89/90 and we had Craig Maskell. Over the years in League 1 we've had the likes of Iwan Roberts, Phil Starbuck, Boothy & Jepo, Leon Knight, Jon Stead, Pavel Abbott & Jordan Rhodes. Some brilliant players there. In 89/90 we also had Mike Cecere, Iffy Onoura, Peter Maguire and 37 year old Peter Withe. Other strikers we've had in League 1 include Gary Haylock, Phil Quinlan, Iain Dunn, Paul Macari, Craig Whittington, Chris Hay, Martin Smith, Scott McDonnald, Gianfranco Labarthe, John McAliskey, David Graham, Lucas Akins, Luke Beckett, Paul Hayes, Phil Jevons, Keigan Parker, Lucas Jutkiewicz, Liam Dickinson, Tom Denton, Nathan Eccleston, Lee Novak, Robbie Simpson, Theo Robinson, Jimmy Spencer, Alan Lee, Benik Afobe, Joe Garner. I don't see many in that list that are better than anything we currently have. Lots are worse and a few similar. So whilst I 100% agree with you that we have had some fantastic strikers. The majority of the strikers we've had have not been great or consistent

We're the 9th top scorers from the 3rd most XG, ie the 3rd most chances created. We are not taking our chances, yet we went on a run where we conceded 6 goals from 6 shots on target because other teams were taking theirs. Off the top of my head, Shrewsbury we missed 3 sitters (Marshall 2), Bojan missed a gobber v Barnsley and 2 other good chances v Wrexham and Northampton (I think, can't remember the opposition). Not striker related specifically but backs up that we have created as Lees has missed 2 from a yard. It's our midfielders who have been the clinical ones on the whole.

We'll have tracked numerous striking options last summer. It would be interesting to know whether the push to bring in an additional body came more from Duff (during that strange week when he found himself down to Koroma as his only available striker), or an owner hoping to stem the flow of post-window abuse he was receiving from some of the morons on Twitter...

Suspect Bojan will end up back in Scandinavia for a nominal fee, absolutely laughable the club spent a reported six figure fee on him on the back of one decent season Finnish semi pro football. Brought in to help save us in the Championship yet doesn’t really look up to much in League 1, they’d have been as well scouting someone from Soccer City at Waterloo. Another Cartwright masterstroke.
