It we don't go up he can go. He's hired 3 managers with only one good one.
Herbie Kane is the only player we've signed under him who's been consistently good and that was likely Duff's doing. He's signed way too many players who are either really hot or cold or are injury prone. However I'd wait until at least the summer because too much change in one season can be bad. If we do go up than fair enough, he'll have done his job and I'd be happy to keep him. However if he were to be fired this minute I couldn't be too upset. Which?!

A couple of questions: 1) Who (out of the realistic candidates) do we want to replace him? 2) How do we know who will be good? Not sure I wouldn't know where to start. Dean Hoyle got it right with his first 2 efforts, ross wilson and then stuart webber who is available again. If you run the club in this model it is one of the most important appointments, we keep sacking coaches but in reality they are a smaller cog in the machine than the sporting director. It doesn't take a football connoisseur to realise cartwright isn't the right man, they need to get this right and he needs to be a good communicator. Ross wilson and webber would do forums or at least offer output on the club channels It's interesting. Wilson and Webber were two very different Sporting Director profiles. Webber came from a scouting and recruitment background while Wilson's prior experience was more on the operations side of things. Then you've also got people like Chris Markham ascending to the role from a technical analysis background. Diverse specialisms and skillsets - but all relevant experience for a position heading up a footballing operation that encompasses each of those departments. Prior to doing the job at Stoke, Cartwright's history on the agency side of the fence was itself quite an interesting USP. Personally, I don't believe the average supporter is particularly more knowledgeable about the Sporting Director role than was the case back in Ross Wilson's time. Generally their popularity remains directly correlated with the recent fortunes of the First Team. Which is fair enough, because that's all we can really see to judge them on. We have very limited visibility of (and in many cases, interest in) the work they're doing to develop the wider footballing infrastructure - facilities, academy, scouting, analysis, performance, medical etc - in order to make the club more competitive over the longer term. Cartwright has understandably become the focal point for fan discontent at First Team underperformance during his 15 months at the club. Ultimately, for any Sporting Director, that's part of the job. There have, of course, been many other hands involved in getting us where we find ourselves today. I'd also suggest that DATM sentiment towards him was probably irreparably damaged before he'd even really got his feet under the table with 'Warnock-gate' followed hot on the heels by Maynard's 'egg on shirt' intervention. If nothing else he's been quite a convenient shield for the owner, but if his continued presence at the club is, in itself, starting to impact KN's own 'approval rating' I think it's probably only a matter of time now...

He’s not done a great job evidently. But I disagree that alfie may wouldn’t have made a huge difference.. Call it papering over the cracks but there’s been a lot of close games where a striker who can put a couple away can completely change a game and make us look comfortable. I think we’d be in the top 3 and folk would have a totally different attitude. It’s the boards fault we didn’t get a decent striker, ultimately. We never spend like a big fish Having an experienced player up front transforms the team Town were a different team Saturday when they changed the front 2 to bring on someone who had at least an idea what they were doing. Healey is the best finisher at the club by a mile. He starts every week when fit. Who with... who knows?
