On the touchline not over it and on the pitch this technically hand ball. The ball isn’t in play until it is released. Yes you're correct my bad. The FA have made too many rules have grey areas, like the ball overhanging the quadrant for corners, the worst one is players going down injured, I thought the rule was unless it's a head injury/serious injury or goalkeeper play carries on with the player having treatment off the pitch. . The game is an absolute farce.

The above is an example of where the game is going wrong. What was a simple rule has been over-complicated to the point of absurdity. The people running the game haven’t a clue. The rules governing procedure for taking a throw-in have not changed since the 1880s ! It was always a simple rule and it remains one.

Too much tinkering with simple rules, I quite agree.

I don't see that as saying when the ball should be released though? It just says that it should come from behind the head. Or perhaps that's the problem, it's too ambiguous. Most of the throws yesterday ended up with the ball being released in front of the players head Yeah true, if it can be interpreted both ways then it is ambiguous. Released behind the head was how I was always taught but I don't really keep up with the modern rules.

Goalkeepers taking longer than six seconds with the ball in their hands. That rule went years ago didn't it? Still bloody annoying though I thought the same until a few weeks ago, I think it was Howard Webb said the rule is still in force but never gets implemented and even he couldn't explain why.

Add to this list… Foul throws with players boots over or on the line. Free kicks having a 30 yard circumference from where the offence took place. Free kicks for offsides that have a 40 yard lateral tolerance. Free kicks where players can stand within 3 yards of the taker, without having to worry about the Ref taking out their lack of authority spray… The standard of refereeing is poor nowadays, but the players don’t make it easy for them do they. Players boots on the line is not a foul throw in Atlantis.

Don't worry everyone, when they finally ban heading the ball, no ball over head height like 5 a side, throw ins will be abolished with roll ins or side foot passes to restart. Also corners will be played with a side foot restart also under head height so the quadrant issue will not be as relevant. God help us. UTT
