Is this even a rule anymore? Pretty much every one taken today was a foul throw, including the one that led to their red card. The funniest had to be where their guy threw it directly up in the air and we had to rely on the ref giving a free kick instead.

I saw a lot of rubbish throw-ins, but not too many that could be considered foul throws today.

While we are here on rules....
Am I the only one who thinks that, in several recent games, when one of our players has had to go off after being injured, the referee has taken AGRS to allow him back on again.
Are there rules on this?

Are there rules on this? They have to remain off the pitch for 30 seconds, and that’s 30 seconds of the game being in play.

Add to this list…
Foul throws with players boots over or on the line.
Free kicks having a 30 yard circumference from where the offence took place.
Free kicks for offsides that have a 40 yard lateral tolerance.
Free kicks where players can stand within 3 yards of the taker, without having to worry about the Ref taking out their lack of authority spray…
The standard of refereeing is poor nowadays, but the players don’t make it easy for them do they.

Add to this list… Foul throws with players boots over or on the line. You can have one or both boots over the line - as in, one or both boots touching the line - even if its the very heel of the foot, with the toes well inside the pitch. Any school child knows this - but a quick straw poll of adults who watch football gave a 90% failure rate!! 🤷♂️

Looked at the rules for a foul throwing and it states throw from behind your head and don’t let your feet come over line before released and neither feet can leave floor. like you I thought it had to be but apparently not.

No one will ever beat Pipa (away at Forest I think?) where he stole about 15 yards … onto the actual pitch! 🤦🏻♂️🤣

I honestly thought that the main infringement was players releasing the ball in front of their heads, however I've obviously misunderstood the laws cos that isn't explicitly mentioned!

Apart from there. I don't see that as saying when the ball should be released though? It just says that it should come from behind the head. Or perhaps that's the problem, it's too ambiguous. Most of the throws yesterday ended up with the ball being released in front of the players head

Football should introduce a drop kick option from throw ins. Obviously it would have to be classed as indirect so you can't score straight from it but it would make the game far more interesting if you could quickly send the ball from one side of the pitch to the other or smartly play someone through on goal.
Time limit it to within 5 seconds so that it can't be used to send everyone up in to the box to launch it in there Tamworth style.

A few seasons ago (10?) exactly what you suggest was trialled for a season in the Isthmian League, apart from the 5 second time limit. I saw a couple of games where it was used. It actually slowed the game down because teams used it as a means to clear the ball way up the pitch if they were defending, or launch the ball into the box if anywhere in the opponent’s half. It was a complete flop.

Yet nowhere does it state you can cross the line before throwing the ball.

Technically the ref yesterday should have given Charlton a foul throw so the ball was "dead" before the Charlton lad whacked into our guy. No yellow or Red 😜

Yet nowhere does it state you can cross the line before throwing the ball. Yes it does. " have PART of each foot ON the touchline OR on the ground outside the touchline" = So in this example part of one foot is ON the touchline and the whole other foot is on the ground outside the touchline, this is perfectly allowed...just as if the right foot was in a similar position to the left foot, with both feets toes on the pitch would also be allowed.

The above is an example of where the game is going wrong. What was a simple rule has been over-complicated to the point of absurdity. The people running the game haven’t a clue.

The "funny" throw in is after 49m20s of the first half on the full match replay.

I don't know why it's so difficult 😃😃 There's a guy near me who almost explodes at least three times per match because of "obvious" foul throws, where the only thing obvious about them is that they aren't foul throws!
