Hello Russ, looks like your getting the hang of things on here. won't be there myself but our Joe will and I'm sure he'll be singing. Hope our Gaz gets home in one piece though he's in with the Yids fans. Sing loud and be proud.

We don't do much singing in the Panasonic (if any) so a few song suggestions in advance would be good so we can google the lyrics. Definately don't intend to be quiet tomorrow so any suggestions will be good. Anyone on here who knows my history will know that in the 70's, 80's and 90's I was home and away with a certain team in red who Leeds hate, so know plenty of those songs but not many Town ones.

I'd write the full lyrics to smile a while but don't want to risk getting it wrong and getting abuse.

This do ya? (Apologies if its not quite right)
There's a team that's dear to it's followers, Their colours are bright blue and white, They're a team of reknown, they're the talk of the town, And the game of Football is their delight.
All the while upon the field of play, Thousands gladly cheered them on their way, Often you could hear them say, Who can beat the town today?
Then the bells shall ring so merrily, Every goal shall be a memory, So town play up and bring the cup, Back to Huddersfield.

well my favourite song never seems to get sung, or never seem to hear it whenever i get home, so someone can give it a go. Surely someone knows the tune as i can't explain it. We are the people, who sing of victory, we'll follow huddersfield town wherever they may be we'll follow huddersfield town the champions of the north we will follow the Hudders Hello hello we are the cowshed boys hello hello we are the cowshed boys and if you are a l**ds fan or you'll die (ok maybe not politically correct, but suppose you could put something like 'get piles') we will follow the hudders... -------------------------- another ditty is when i was a laddie my mam said to me will it be l**ds or will it be sheffield but i said no it be huddersfield town --------------------- the hecky version of marching on together might not go down too well, but was quite funny when you got 50 p*ssed lads on a coach -------------------- don't forget is that all you get at home - just for the wind up effect

well the words might be more or less the same, but it was more the way it was sang that would upset some folk. i think you had to be on the chilly bus, having had the usual 3 hour stop off somewhere which usually involved being forced into a pub to take shelter from the cold , to appreciate it (ie. not get upset about it).
i'd stick with the we are the people, much nicer (aparting from hoping they die, which obviously for any l**ds fan reading we'd settle for a bad illness, i had shingles a few weeks back that'd do for em (as it's a little painful and worrying when you don't know what it is), but won't fit in the song ).

LOL Bob....the way we sung it may just be a bit OTT these days, but bloody 'ell wasnt it funny when 50 lads were singing it clapping and missing the hands........I think Saki actually did sing that way!!!!!!!! Have you read ''Come on then'' yet? At the beggining Hecky gets a good mention and I get a mention by name.....made my day and actually brought a tear to my eye. If you havnt got a copy you can have mine in Feb.

ah well, he tried to convert me. dragged along when man u played there the first season after their promotion (75-76?). wombles in the cup (46K), ipswich cup replay (50K),plenty of others i can vaguely remember. for some reason i still preferred the few thousand that we got at town around the same time and never used to feel that comfortable (in fact i nearly always wore a town silk , remember them?, when i went, tho you couldn't tell what it was unless you unravelled it and read it). Can't explain it. We lived closer to the L**ds ground, up the old leeds road into Birstall, but still preferred the longer bus journey up to huddersfield. My dad told me my brother only started going to watch L**ds when i started going to town games with him, so suppose it was my fault he turned.

Nice story mate, that's what following a football team is all about, I don't think you really choose your team, more a team chooses you. I used to go to Hull city games but never felt at home and insisted on wearing my Leeds sweatbands and longed for the day when I would be old enough to go to Bellend road.

Being brought up in Cleck & Hecky it was hard not to have to mix with Leeds fans but hardly any of them ever went, could never work that out because this was when they were doing well. My next door neighbour moved to Hecky when his Dad retired from the RAF because they wanted to be near Leeds and thought Hecky would be full of Leeds fans, he got a bit of surpirise the first time he hung his Leeds towel out....they don't half burn well ;D

there's a coincidence. we moved back to birstall when my dad retired from the RAF. My first school was the control tower at biggin hill. Where we lived (howden clough) there were quite a few l**ds fans who actually went to games, and one or two town fans about. I actually provided the programme tokens for a l**ds fan to get tickets for paris when they got to the european final, as i used to collect programmes and let him have all the tokens they used to put in the top right corner on the front page. I used to travel to the home games on the national coach that used to go round the heavy woollen area and when we used to play l**ds pre-season it used to have both sets of supporters on and no trouble. Don't think you could do that nowadays.
