... but what exactly is an avatar and how do you create one?
Loving the site, by the way... even though i can't seem to work out a fecking thing! My failing, and not the site's, I hasten to add.

My avatar is the head up the arse thingy on the left
Set it up on the modify profile thingy. click on the profile tab at the top of the screen, then modify profile, find a piccy which suits you and link to it

on the front page of datm.co.uk there's the technical forum, you can get details there.
search the net for a piccy you like
right click on a picture........look under properties it gives the URL of the pic
put the URL in the profile settings, set pixel size underneath
