Any suggestions please.
For the last 15 seasons I've been going to the Head of Steam pre-match, but over summer they brought in a 'no kids unless you're eating' rule - which has scuppered me as I have a 7 year old with me.
We have found another place. But its rubbish. So I need recommendations for a new pre-match pub which meets certain criteria and which I can sell to the 4 or 5 mates I watch Town with.
1. Has to allow 7 year old boys in (who will sit quietly playing Mario Kart DS and drinking orange).
2. Be within 5 mins walking distance of the Town centre.
3. Have parking available less than 3 minutes away.
4. Be suitably close to the Galpharm that its possible to arrive at 2pm and get 2 pints in (we usually aim to arrive around about 2:58pm).
5. Prefer to sit down rather than stand.
6. Must be able to hold and hear a conversation.
7. Some other stuff.

A few of us usually go to Slubbers. The licensee has no probs with kids and parking is OK. Usually good Town based conversation. Might be a bit far out of Town centre or too far from Galph for you.

I'd second the Slubbers (in Fartown), although you'll struggle to get a seat. Been in there a few times before kick off
Apparently the Flyboat in Aspley is okay also
The Ropewalk is my preferred post match watering hole, although you usually have be wait to get a pint and I don't know if they let kids in on night matches (no kids after 8 pm rule)

Why don't you get your kid a packet of crisps! Problem sorted!

Yeah might try Flyboat out, used to go there occasionally when the Wharf was our regular pre-match haunt.
Its really the wrong end of Town though, given we come from Elland, Lindley, Golcar and Beaumont Park (for which Flyboat IS conveniant!)

Yep we go to the Flyboat, family friendly, closeish, excelletn to get away up the Holme valley. Unfortunately only Tetleys on hand pull, but its kept well.

me and my mates have also been meeting in head of steam for past 10 years too.
They are now a little more relaxed regards kids probably as it is never as busy as it was. My nepthew is always allowed in even through he doesn't have any food.
The only problem I have now is getting past Mark the doorman on saturday as he is a l***s fan.

The Vulcan. Cheap ale, cheap & tasty food. 10 mins from ground. Sky sports & full of die hard Town fans, kids too.

Bradley Mills Cricket Club on Barr Street - loads of kids there, cheap beer and secure parking.

The Station Tavern. 100 yards from the Head of Steam. A fine selection of ales set in victorian pub that has not changed since 1870. The finest pre match drink going.

I would second the Station Tavern.
The Head of Steam is nowhere near as good as it used to be - the decor is foul (or at least it was when they had just "done it up" a few months back).

Looks like a doctors waiting room and no where to put your pints...

Yep, Station Tavern is great.
Not convenient for me on match days, but the best beer in Huddersfield.
